I'm so glad you asked someone old enough to remember! Back in the unlamented late 60's, black Americans who were not filled with hatred for whites, and believed in peaceful dialogue, were denounced by the militants as "Uncle Toms" (from the 1859 abolitionist novel).
During the same period Mexican-Americans who failed to join the militant Chicano movement were denounced as "Tio Taco's", an imperfect rhyme with `Uncle Tom', equally insinuative of subservience to the white majority.

The "N-word" was a derrogatory slang word about a person of a certain race.
The word "illegals" is a PROPER WORD for people (of any race or color or nationality) who SNEAK INTO THIS COUNTRY ILLEGALLY.
This is just more of the left's pandering to try to make the rest of us change our minds on "ILLEGALS".

That's all right ... this "insults she would expect" nonsense is so appalling, it deserves all the scorn that can be heaped on it.

Why should John Archibald get a pass when disrespecting our culture and heritage to write a "touchy-feely" article denouncing this nations citizens to promote an illegal alien's fear of what she might "expect" to be said about her. This is an outrage. I have never disrespected anyone of another nationality, race or religious beliefs. Well, I did read the Koran and found some passages worthy of disrespect, so I'll qualify my statement. I have never made fun of or disrespected someone their nationality, race or cultural heritage as long as they don't threaten me or my family. Seriously, I just visited my local corner store and asked the proprietor which Hindu god he worshiped. He is a nice guy, my friend of several years and no threat to this nation.
Now, I have to endure my cultural heritage being "dissed" by this author so he can look good in his reader's eyes. He says, "Illegals" is now the epithet of choice. Just use it in place of the n-word." Well, I find offense when Mr. Archibald refers to "redneck hillbillies" and doesn't know the difference between the two.
Illegal is a word. Words have meanings and "feelings" are for liberals. Redneck and Hillbilly are words, too. In this author's own words, "Just use it in place of the n-word." (See how easy it is to be one of the offended you politically correct idiots?)
As a side note. I married a foreign girl 24 years ago. She is still a citizen of another nation and has had no desire to relinquish her citizenship... until now. All these illegals demanding their "right" to be an American has made her angry, too. I married my wife on foreign soil and had to leave her behind for over 2 months until our paperwork was completed to bring her "home". I have every right to call an illegal alien "illegal".

It occurred to me the other day that the media have used a two step process to falsify the english language regarding illegal immigration.
First, they changed "illegal immigrant" to "undocumented immigrant". Then they dropped the "undocumented" part.
Thus they first turned a truth into a half truth, and then turned the half truth into a lie.
I am going to reread 1984 and see if Orwell predicted such a "two step" approach toward linguicide. I wouldn't be surprised if I find that he anticipated this particular approach toward falsifying the language.
Black people here in the liberal state of California don't like illegal immigration one bit.
It would strike me as bizarre that black people in the conservative deep south would be to the left of their counterparts in California.
I have a hard time the rank and file black people of Birmingham agree with the article.
The funny thing is, I don't even see that the term "illegal alien" carries a very strongly negative connotation.
To me it is a mildly negative term, which I believe matches the reality of the situation.
What I consider a REAL slur is the word "Senator".
Yeah well, the local B'ham media can be stunningly ignorant of their constituency. For example, the local Fox affiliate's sports guy attributed the turnout for Monday's rain-delayed race at Talladega to all of the people participating in the immigration boycott who came to the track just to have something to do.

Nor do I. The term is benign. I cannot find an example where it is an epitaph such as the "N" word.
The author of this pile of crap dishonored true Americans with the terms "redneck hillbilly" to theoretically insult the illegal alien and try and associate the descriptor "illegal alien" with the unacceptable "n-word". Truly a disgusting attempt to destroy our society by changing definitions.

These Police Officers Needed A 'Day Without Immigrants'

Despite the false rhetoric spilling from the mouth of our internationalist president, not every illegal alien comes here simply to work. In fact, many Mexican invaders come here to cause mayhem in our streets. Illegal aliens account for 30 percent of the U.S. prison population. One effect illegals have on our nation which you will not hear reported by the leftist media is the murder of many U.S. police officers...However, you will hear it from me!
On Sept. 30, 1992, Oregon State Trooper Bret Clodfelter (age 34) stopped a suspected drunk driver who turned out to be an illegal alien named Francisco Manzo-Hernandez. The drunken driver was traveling with two of his fellow invaders. Trooper Clodfelter handcuffed the driver and placed him in the back seat of his cruiser.
As all of the men were drunk and the state trooper offered to drive the two passengers home. For his kindness, Clodfelter was shot in the head four times. All three illegals fled the scene and were captured a few days later.
Trooper Clodfelter served with the Oregon State Police for eight years and left behind a wife, son, and daughter. A further tragedy took place a year after the trooper's murder. Rene, his grief-stricken wife of only one month took her own life.
On March 26, 1999, Phoenix Police Officer Marc Atkinson (age 28) was shot and killed by illegal alien Felipe Petrona-Cabana. Officer Anderson was ambushed by Cabana while on routine patrol. Cabana was traveling with two other illegal aliens and carrying a pound of cocaine. An armed citizen named Rory Vertigan witnessed the shooting and helped capture the Mexican outlaws.
Officer Atkinson served on the Phoenix Police Department for five years. He left behind a wife and an infant son.
On April 29, 2002, Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy David March (age 33) was shot to death by illegal alien Armondo Garcia. Invader Garcia told friends that he wanted to kill a police officer. Garcia saw Deputy March on patrol one evening and pulled over and waited for March to drive past him. As soon as March began to pass, Garcia opened fire. The Mexican national fled back across the border after murdering March.
For four years, the government of Mexico refused to apprehend or extradite Garcia. This past February, U.S. Customs officers arrested Garcia in Mexico. Unfortunately, cop-killer Garcia is still awaiting extradition back to the U.S.
Deputy March served with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department for seven years and left behind a wife and stepdaughter.
On August 9, 2002, U.S. Park Ranger Kris Eggle (age 27) was killed by Mexican drug dealers while on duty in Arizona's Oregon Pipe Cactus National Monument Park. Ranger Eggle was attempting to apprehend two Mexican drug dealers, after being notified by Mexican authorities that the two had crossed the border and were headed into the park. One of the drug dealers opened fire on Ranger Eggle with an AK-47. Eggle died before a medivac helicopter arrived on the scene. Mexican police officers shot and killed Eggle's murderer.
U.S. Park Ranger Eggle left behind his grieving parents and his sister (also a U.S. Park Ranger).
On November 13, 2005, Dallas Police Officer Brian Jackson (age 28) was shot to death by illegal alien Juan Lizcano. Officer Jackson responded to a call from Lizcano's ex-girlfriend. The illegal alien was threatening her and fired a gun inside her house. As Officer Jackson approached the house, Lizcano fled at which time Jackson gave chase. Lizcano eventually lay in wait and fired on the Dallas patrolman. Officer Jackson died one hour later at Baylor Medical Center.
Juan Lizcano had been arrested two months before murdering the police officer (once for threatening his girlfriend with a knife and again for a DUI). Lizcano had been living illegally in the United States for two years.
Officer Brian Jackson served on the Dallas Police Department for five years. He left behind a wife of only two months.
These are only a few of the stories of the human cost of illegal immigration. The next time you hear someone say "they are only here to work"...Remember these police officers who paid the ultimate price for so-called cheap labor.

The "rank and file" as you call it in Birmingham, Alabama, votes one way AND ONE WAY ONLY MY FRIEND, THAT IS DEMOCRAT. They never vote anything but democrat by about a 98-2% margin. There is nothing conservative about that.
