"Thank you so much for this, Mike. Damn! I'll miss her."

You and me both, but I know you will more, though.  The last couple days since the news broke, I wake up in the morning and lay there a minute, for that moment your mind is a blank for a second, and then reality comes rushing in again and I think about her and what's happening.

She was a perfect example of how the Internet has transformed society and the way we interact.  Outside of the Internet, I would have never known her.  But all these years our relationship became just as real as if she was a neighbor.

Please keep us appraised of her current situation....

"Judy took me under her wing on this site a long time ago...."

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me.  She had this knack for seeing that people had some thing going and just "volunteered" her help.  It wasn't just here at Free Republic, but off site as well.

She would send something through, and for every five articles or resource, one would just be invaluable in worth.

Just think about everything we have been through since the late 90's when I first started corresponding with her!  The bitter end of the Clinton years, Y2K and the millennium, the Florida recount fiasco, and 9/11.  Every one generated a mound of information and response, and Judy always had a knack of gleaning through it all and gathering the most excellent.

Bump of Prayers to another fine Freeper who is making the transition to go home.

I never had the honor to post back and forth with her but from reading ya'lls posts sounds like she is a great woman.

Prayers for comfort for your whole family.

This time is very difficult, I'm reminded of the wait when my own mom was passing... It was not long, but it felt like it at the time. Time stood still.

May you and your mom have peace.

Prayer Bump.

Man I have really had your Mom (I never had the pleasure of posting/knowing her) on my mind/prayers this last week.

God only knows why as they say.

Hope your family is doing well.

Mom is still hanging on. She has been without IV fluids for a week. It is
remarkable that she is still hanging on! There is no hope since she is in a
vegatative state but you have to admire how tough she is. She should pass
anytime now. Vincent says that it looks like she is just sleeping. She has
opened her eyes once or twice.

Vincent has been by her bedside almost the whole time. Dana is leaving
tomorrow. Kerrie Lynn and Jodi (her daughters) are still there.

I'll keep you updated.

p.s. I just performed a cat scan on Caleb, my St. bernard who was diagnosed with bone cancer on Feb 3 and had a rear leg amputation, and saw no lung cancer or bone
cancer or anything else! How cool! He is certainly beating the odds. He does show some minimal degenerative changes of the hips, though, which is not
unexpected on a big dog.

Life certainly has its twists. When Caleb was diagnosed 3 months ago, I was with mom. I was extremely grieved and sad over him at the time since we are so close. Now, he is still living and healthy but since that time, mom, Baby Luv (Caleb's sister) and another dog of mom's has died. Who could have ever of foreseen such events? Life is certainly odd at times.

re: Was she in the CCU being monitored when she ran into problems last Monday?

She had the heart cath on a Friday, was recovering on Saturday and coded on Sunday in the Cardiac ICU.

She was there to be monitored and I think that the nurses really dropped the ball and let her go hypoxic. They did not monitor her closely nor provide O2 fast enough.

She is healing nicely from the CABG but that is not now not relevant because of the cerebral hypoxia.

The hospital is taking good care of my 3 sisters and brother by providing a house for them to stay in.

After 13 yrs in the medical field myself, I know that corporations do not do things out of the kindness of their hearts. I'm sure that they are afraid of a lawsuit which I very seriously doubt that anyone will pursue in my family.

Obviously, however, there was negligence involved but people are only human.

I cut my assignment short here in Deming, NM but will not be back in time to see mom. I would never have figured that she would hang on for so long. I find that incredible. But I will be back in Arkansas on May 23/24. I will commence doing some work on the place (i.e. place some siding up and put security door up and bar or board some windows). I also feel that Vincent will need some support from me and I will do what I can. I may bring him along with me and Caleb on my next assignment but I need to make the house secure first.

Crossed posts. Thank you for the update. The whole scenario you described is heartbreakingly familiar and I can sympathize with your family. This is emotionally grueling time for you all...praying for extra strength.

Hi, EZ -- thanks for the update & add'l info on your mom. It's a tough situation, indeed. I'm not sure what to say, except that my prayers for her, for your family, & for you continue. May you be blessed with restful sleep, wisdom, and more. Take care of yourself.

Hi, GrandmaC -- thanks so much for posting this thread.

Well, mom finally passed at noon (MTN Time) on May 12, 2006. I am amazed that she lived for so long after the surgerical complications and hypoxia. She lived well over a week with no IV fluids. This is a testament as to how tough she really was! Happy Mother's Day, mom! I'll miss you and always love you!

Here is a quote that I just read in Book VII of "The Children of the Lion" series:

"Life is so brief. We live hardly longer than a butterfly and the afterlife is so long, you'd think we'd barely even notice the little time we have here. But it's so beautiful. So beautiful! And we rarely ever really pay attention to it while we're here. We're always so caught up in the passing pains and pleasures of the moment, we don't see how lovely it all is. We try to grasp it! We try to hold it! We try to control it! And we're so unhappy when we can't do so. If I tried to catch this butterfly, it'd fly away and I'd have nothing. But look! I let the butterfly do as it pleases, so it trusts me. Just because I haven't tried to force anything, I've had this lovely moment that will never come again. We're all so blind here. The lovely moments pass us by, and we wind up with our hands and heart equally empty."

So, I encourage everyone to enjoy today. Be thankful of the things you have in your life today, not tomorrow, but today. Life is so fragile, so delicate, that we know not what tomorrow may bring.
