Democrats pledge probes of Bush, not impeachment

By Andrea Hopkins 10 minutes ago

Democrats will launch a series of investigations of the Bush administration if they take control of Congress in November but are not out to impeach President George W. Bush, a top Democrat said on Sunday.

House of Representatives Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said Democrats would hold hearings on the use of intelligence in the lead-up to the Iraq war and investigate the high price of energy and prescription drugs if they win the extra 15 seats they need for a House majority in the mid-term elections.

But Pelosi denied Republican claims that her party would move quickly to impeach Bush.

"I said we'd be having hearings on the war, we'd have hearings. But I don't see us going to a place of impeachment," Pelosi said in an interview on NBC's Meet the Press. "Investigation does not equate to impeachment. Investigation is the requirement of Congress. It is about checks and balances."

In Congress, the majority party controls the chairmanship and agenda of all committees, where most laws are drafted and investigative and subpoena power is held.

With Bush's public approval rating at an all-time low and Republicans fearing they could lose control of both houses of Congress in November, Democrats are laying out plans for an aggressive start to the new Congress.

Michigan Rep. John Conyers (news, bio, voting record), the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, has called for the creation of committee to recommend grounds for possible impeachment of Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney.

But Pelosi said such a decision rests with her and the Democratic caucus.

"John Conyers is an enthusiastic advocate. I am the leader. Our caucus will decide where we go," she said.

THE RAT CAN always BE COUNTED ON TO OVER PLAY HIS HAND.

Remember when we first took the Congress there was all that talk about us not "knowing" how to be on top? Well lots of it was right BUT the rat did not/does not "know" how to play from behind. The lurch from "issue" to "issue" mistaking ratmedia wishful thinking and lied for the truth. The "truth" is that the ratmedia has lied to and with the rat some long neither can now tell the difference. Remember they told dumb ole frenchie he was a winner on Election Day up to 3PM!

I, for one, think we shouldn't warn them off on this "idea."

Either way, it's a huge waste of money. I get so tired of "political investigations" that have absolutely nothing to do with real crime.

The DemonRats are doing everything they can to get me to the polls this November.

Yep - the hot-heads that would cut off their "principled" noses to spite their faces. There are 5 months left for reason to prevail.

You've been here long enough to know that that is not going to happen. :-)

In Pelosi's first statement about the Democrat's agenda she didn't stop at "their investigation" she added they hadn't considered impeachment but you never know where an investigation will take you. Not her exact words but exactly what she conveyed.

These yoyos thought that they had the last midterms sewn up, and as it ended up, Carville summed the night up with a trashcan on his head. I personally think that the Dems are hitting the Nitro button a few months too soon. I think they will gain some seats, but not enough.

"A major problem is the GOP has "allowed" the dems to coddle left wing radicals, without being called out and embarrassed into reeling them in. A subset of that is Black America's support for out and out marxists in the dem party."

WELL SAID.

America is drifting left and for no good reason at all. The voters havent moved left and in fact want more conservative policies, on spending, taxes, culture, immigration, etc.

The Democrats are captured by the moonbat-left, and the Republicans are failing to capitalize on it and maky political hay out of the extremism of the Democrats.

Sheehan and Wilson *together* on the bash-Bush hearings?

Is this a wierd Washington DC form of "Hollywood Squares", where the has-beens and near-celebrities get together to make some sparks fly?

what an absurdity.

I do thinks it helps the GOP to point out how absolutely nuts the Democrats are.

They're not conservatives; they are the New John Birch Society.

I should have said self-professing "conservatives".

They hate the media more then anyone else. The media doesn't tell us that. The media is negative, negative, negative because they want Americans to feel like crap. Two reasons, the media secretly hates America and the average American so they want them to feel like crap and 2) they think it will hurt Bush.
