I love some of his lines in here. I suspect the Cardinal thought he could be a little looser in front of a some Catholic Business lay group in Naples FLorida thats a half world away from his Diocese. Like what paper in Australia would care or so he thought lol. I don't know when they posted this on their web site but I suspect it after the controversy.

I know the Muslims in Australia don't like what the Cardinal said, but I challenge them to point out any inaccuracies.

Pell also said, "Islam could be the communism of the 21st century if the West does not reform its secular democracy" and that" secular liberal democracy was empty and selfish, and Islam was emerging as an alternative world view."

What's strange to me is the fact that that the Cardinal is only repeating (somewhat more forcefully) much of what Benedict has been saying since his election.

When he spoke before the muslim leaders in Cologne last year, he basically warned them that the Church has a long memory of muslim attacks on Christians stretching back to the Byzantine Empire, and that they were in error if they thought the patience of Christians was infinite. In short, he was warning them they might re-awaken something in the West that they have not seen for a long time, and they would not be happy about it.
