Ping for later read.
I love this part
"Luxenbergs meticulous analysis suggests that the Arabic word for maidens is in fact a mistranscription of the Syriac word for grapes. This does strain common sense. Valiant strivings to be consoled by beautiful women is one thing, but to be heroic for a packet of raisins seems a bit much! "

One of the best lines:
In the past pagans sacrificed animals and even humans in vain attempts to placate capricious and cruel gods. Today they demand a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
Given the well known harmful effects of enviro-nuttiness (millions dead from the bans on DDT, for example), the green pagans are actually quite prepared to resume human sacrifice.
Reviving and updating an old tagline...
The next Pope, who will take the name Urban IX???
I love some of his lines in here. I suspect the Cardinal thought he could be a little looser in front of a some Catholic Business lay group in Naples FLorida thats a half world away from his Diocese. Like what paper in Australia would care or so he thought lol. I don't know when they posted this on their web site but I suspect it after the controversy.
In a word NO.

LOL!
Thanks for posting this, the more I hear from Pell the better I like him.
Islam means subjugation for us all. Islam and the Left are the enemies of freedom. Live free or die.
I know the Muslims in Australia don't like what the Cardinal said, but I challenge them to point out any inaccuracies.
I like the man, too.

When he spoke before the muslim leaders in Cologne last year, he basically warned them that the Church has a long memory of muslim attacks on Christians stretching back to the Byzantine Empire, and that they were in error if they thought the patience of Christians was infinite. In short, he was warning them they might re-awaken something in the West that they have not seen for a long time, and they would not be happy about it.
Benedict has been spending far more time on leftist/social justice issues than on the threat of Islam.
Wow, what an insightful piece!
