Why Are We Baiting Putin?
The Post Chronicle ^ | 5/9/06 | Patrick J. Buchanan

Posted on 05/08/2006 8:59:41 PM PDT by RepublicNewbie

"(N)o legitimate interest is served when oil and gas become tools of intimidation or blackmail, either by supply management or attempt to monopolize transportation," thundered Vice President Cheney to the international pro-democracy conference in Vilnius, Lithuania.

"(N)o one can justify actions that undermine the territorial integrity of a neighbor, or interfere with democratic movements."

Cheney's remarks were directed straight at the Kremlin and President Vladimir Putin, who is to host the G-8 Conference in July.

Cheering Cheney on is John McCain, front-runner for the GOP nomination, who has urged President Bush to snub Putin by boycotting the G-8 summit. What the GOP is thus offering the nation right now is seven more years of in-your-face bellicosity in foreign policy.

What does McCain think we would accomplish -- other than a new parading of our moral superiority -- by so public an insult to Putin and Russia as a Bush boycott of the St. Petersburg summit? Do we not have enough trouble in this world, do we not have enough people hating us and Bush that we have to get into Putin's face and antagonize the largest nation on earth and a co-equal nuclear power? What is the purpose of this confrontation diplomacy? What does it accomplish?

And the grandpa of all gravitas, Richard Cheney, is the right guy to deliver that message.

Why do you think he pulled back so quick? He got a call from every leader in the G8, and then some telling him that.==

That is right. But same leaders called to Ukraine too. They served as a mediators.
Yuschenko agreed to pay market price under pressure but just took some timeout for thier elections in March. Putin gave him half year grace period which expires on July 01.
So from that moment the price for Ukraine will be $230.

Tell that to the 50 million that were killed by Communists after they "won".==

You prefer that Hitler won instead? If he did that no poles and no jews in Europe by now. Ukranians should be about 5 mlns as agreculture slaves for german landlords.
You think it would be better?

Shouldn't that have been done without endangering and scaring millions of people?

No one wants to be your friend when you break contracts.

That's one of the reasons our economy rocks - we have very strong protections on contract law.

If you can't trust the people you're doing business with, no business will get done!

What to do if thier goverment just refused to pay? You need something to make sense in them. Russia shutted delivery only on 2 days. Not more.

Sorry you can't see it, but just wait until you see how every other country defends. They won't be your customers anymore.

Hugo Chavez is a communist. Russia gets fat off of communist theft. Russia today is led by the kinds of rich fat socialists who funded the Bolshevik revolution in the first place. It's oligarchs like Abramovich who get billions richer from Putin's crooked deals, not the Russian people. As long as Russia makes profit off of the communist crimes of their clients, Russia is evil and an enemy all humanity.
