State McCarthyites seek to marginalize Latinos (GAG-HACK-BARF!!!)
Arizona Daily Star ^ | Hector A. Morales Jr.

Posted on 05/08/2006 9:57:33 PM PDT by SandRat

Half a century ago, some of us were "over there" fighting a little war in Asia. It wasn't limited to the Korean Peninsula. We were protecting the world's democracies and defending the American way.

Meanwhile, back home, a cancer was growing on the American body politic. Its name was the House Un-American Activities Committee, a weapon of the U.S. Congress. HUAC attacked any dissenting American person or group it deemed dangerous to those in power at the time.

Fanning the flames of psycho-patriotism was a venomous demagogue named Sen. Joe McCarthy. He and HUAC destroyed many careers and lives before they were stopped.

Today, 50 years later, many Latinos, both citizen and non-citizen, are fighting and dying in a little war in the Middle East. It isn't limited to Iraq. They are helping to protect developing democracies and defending the American way.

Meanwhile, back home a cancer is growing on the Arizona body politic. Its name is the House Select Committee on Government Operations, Performance and Waste, a weapon of the Arizona Legislature.

As HUAC did in the mid-20th century, the House committee has carved out a 21st century mission of attacking dissenters it deems dangerous to those in power today.

The committee's majority members appear to be a gang of McCarthy wannabes. A committee hearing held April 20 exposed its reactionary purpose; TUSD Superintendent Roger Pfeuffer and Tucson High School principal Abel Morado were ordered to appear and explain why the district runs a "sweatshop for liberalism.''

Activist Dolores Huerta and Congressman Raul Grijalva were lambasted in absentia. Committee Chairman John Allen, R-Scottsdale, said that former Ku Klux Klan member and Louisiana legislator David Duke would be a "counterbalance" to Huerta.

Committee member Jonathon Paton, R-Tucson, voted for criminalizing undocumented workers and their families, and demanded prior censorship of speakers in public schools, implying legislative retribution. Then when questioned, he retreated to an innocuous position of seeking only "balance."

Huerta, a former schoolteacher who knows from experience that high school students are not as naive or uninformed as Rep. Paton would have us believe, did say, "Republicans hate Latinos," but she later modified that overstatement. She said that only a certain type of Republican shares that view.

I personally know that not all Republicans hate Latinos. Some of my very best friends are Republican, including more than a few Hispanics, and they are actively supportive of Latino aspirations.

But many Latinos are aware that there is a growing mob of McCarthyite Republicans in Arizona state government who love to use their political power to marginalize us into oblivion.

The good news is that they will self-destruct, as did their ideological predecessors of the Cold War era. Hector A. McCarthy was right. And on May 1st of this year we had millions of marxist-organized, foreign invaders marching in our streets. The President, the MSM, and both political parties are falling over themselves trying to figure out how best to appease and lionize the criminal marchers. Heck, even in McCarthy's most alarmist statements he never expected ANYTHING like this.

It was the House Committee on Un-American Activities. The commies and com-symps invented HUAC. As for the rest of his silly statements let him get his bowels in an uproar. Who cares.

As for Senator McCarthy the CP/USA, I believe, invented "McCarthyism" to discredit the senator.

USSR files and the Venona Papers have proved that McCarthy was 99 44/100 % correct (almost) -- he just was not telegenic and lacked charisma. We knew he was right and Morrow, Hiss, et al. were lying SOB commies and com-symp pinkos.

Jonathan Paton does not want to marginalize any group. We are fortunate to have this brilliant young man in our legislature.

This gentleman needs a civics lesson since he doesn't get the concept of national sovereignty.

We, those against the invasion from the south, should write letters of thanks to all those who were protesting. They pushed more people to our side than millions spent on advertisement could have. I never thought seeing commies marching in our streets would be a good thing.

This is almost like..was it Mike Wallace? who said something like,

"...I would wish that the American Antheme be sung in Many, many OTHER Languages!! if other countries wish to use it as a SYMBOL as a Sign Of Freedom!.."

Yet?...then WHY Re-Write it??

If he's against "venomous demagogues" why didn't he mention the Minnesota "professor" who made such a fool of herself? She threw a screaming fit about "Angelo's backs being soooooo wet....". It was embarrassing listening to her illiterate rant.

She had no sense of history, culture or any other damn thing. She must have gotten her credentials out of a box of "All Bran", 'cause they sure didn't come from a legit university!

Exactly! Now if more people would wake up to the fact that we have been invaded and the invaders are breaking and entering into this country NOT WANTED and NOT INVITED and they have to go and go quickly.

We were told here in our City that we must conserve water because of OVER POPULATION!!!!!!

Foreign national invaders are breaking into this country causing a water shortage!!

How long before their unwanted presence causes you and your families major problems?

How long are you going to wait before you tell Congress...enough....DEPORT ALL of them stop the invasion at the border.... and NO AMNESTY!!!!in November?

The Republicans must play the politics of victimhood right back or they are doomed. They must be on the side of those whose jobs and salaries are threatened.
