The Moose is Back (Sniper Case Ex-Police Chief Now Training To Be Street Officer In Hawaii)
Michelle Malkin ^ | May 8, 2006 | Michelle Malkin

Say a prayer for the people of Honolulu. My former police chief, the utterly incompetent Charles "Still waiting for the white van" Moose, has resurfaced. (Hat tip: reader JB) According to WTOP News, he is now training to be a street officer in Hawaii.

Charles Moose was at the forefront of the hunt for the snipers who terrorized the D.C. area, four years ago -- the former Montgomery County Police Chief was the public face of the regional task force that arrested John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo.

Just before opening statements in Muhammad's sniper murder trial, Charles Moose is training as a recruit for the Honolulu Police Department.

WTOP has told you it was in the works in the past few weeks, but Michelle Yu, of the Honolulu Police Department confirms Moose entered the training academy May 1. She says Moose will undergo approximately six months of classroom training and another six months of field training.

Moose's wife has been quoted as saying her husband misses the excitement of police work and has been looking forward to getting back to the work he loves. You'll remember Moose stepped down as chief to write a book on the sniper investigation.

When he graduates, Moose will have the rank of Officer.

Hope they can keep him from shaking down anymore island hotels.

How the mighty have fallen. When I first started reading this report, I thought Moose was going to become the police chief of Honolulu but NO! Instead he is training to become a street cop. I guess that $170,000 book advance that he tossed his police career away for didn't go very far after all the cuts for taxes, agents, etc..

I'm surprised.

I figured Moose would resurface as the Police Chief of Ray Nagin's "Chocolate City".

He deserves a write up? The fool. My sympathies for Hawaii.

Wonder how many more doctorate degrees he's purchased in the interim...

Are you kidding. He has at least one pension with the money rolling in. And perhaps two if not now then in the future. It's called double dipping and done all the time by LEOS. They work 25 years for the county to get their pension, then get a federal job with another pension. He and his wife are scammers. They sued a hotel and won $200,000+ for some absurd racial discrimination claim.

Moose just wants to keep busy in the tropical paradise of Hawaii. He wants out of the house and away from his white wife at least part of the day

The book advance he received was only the same as a year's salary as police chief and he tossed his career away for THAT? Did Moose actually think the book royalties would pay him off bigtime? He was slated to receive $4 per book sold at full price but how many books actually sold? I bet less than 10,000 at full retail. Now he has to start all over again as a street cop.

Right on! A fool remains a fool no matter how many match book advertised degrees he purchases or what his color. Darn, can I say that? He is black, you know.

I wish him well in whatever career path he takes.
He was one of many major law enforcement officials including the FBI that can take credit for the snipers being caught as well as take the blame for it taking so long. They were sifting through a mountain of information, almost all of it misleading and worthless. There were victims in every county surrounding the District of Columbia with the exception of the District. The MSM is more to blame for his name being in the forefront for parking their vans outside of Montgomery County's courthouse and waiting everyday for him to say something. I guess they felt safe there.

The first report I saw said that police were seeking a large blue late model chevy with two men with dark complexions.

It was a white man in a big van who ended up catching the murderous neo-terrs.

Better yet it seems he would have run for office there.

Between he and Katz of Portland, they really messed that city up royally.

I've read a lot of Moose bashing here on FR. Truthfully, I have read much. Maybe he deserves it.

I can say that I've met Charles. When he was a 1st Lt in the Air Guard (I think he was a Police Officer in Portland at the time), we went to a USAF logistics plans class together. We attended the class in Denver (Lowry AFB) for six weeks. I can honestly say that he was one of the most professional officers I've ever met.

"Moose couldnt find his butt crack with a flashlight and a mirror."

Because he would be looking for two white guys driving a white van instead of his black butt crack.

Chances are better in Hawaii at capturing white perps. Maybe he'll like it there.

Credit??? He made capturing the snipers take LONGER than it should have.

You aren't familiar with Moose at all. Care to discuss his career in Oregon?

Oh, welcome to Free Republic.

No I haven't.
I've been more interested in the trial of the two terrorists that were doing the shooting. I remember the day that they confirmed that the gun/guns found in their car were indeed the guns used, I took my 3 year old son outside to play after being confined to indoors for 24 days. It was a beautiful day, the sunshine felt good. We had a great time playing outside. We moved away from there 3 years ago.

I was hoping that he would go New Orleans to become the new head cop there.
