WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this mornings Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.
The Mexican military doesnt exactly have a good government reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexicos military to the Minutemens location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble, said Tancredo.
Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemens recruitment of more volunteers, said Tancredo.
The Minutemen havent been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrarythey have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemens constitutional right to organize, Tancredo concluded. I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.

I wrote Senator Cornyn a letter as soon as the news of this came out today.
Interesting question, that...
If the President saw this and was in support of enforcing our borders, he would immediately order the powers that be to knock it off.
I guess that won't be happening any time soon.
The story continues.
BTT
If This is true, President Bush should not wonder why his approval ratings are falling.
We again have net the enemy and again it is us.
What's worse is they had a minuteman from Illinois on the local radio show saying that "the show will drop tomorrow." Something will show up in the newspapers tomorrow apprently. She said the government is spying on the minutemen, not the border patrol since the only operate on border states, and sending the information to Mexico. She said the reporting tomorrow will tell of how the government told the government of Mexico how there are "about 50 minutemen members in the Illinois chapter with little sway over local politicians."
This is going to get big, I think. Props to the small mom-and-pop newspaper in Ontario, California which found this information (don't know if it was leaked or what.)

My hero.
BUMP

If Bush wasn't already toast, he will be if this story is true!
This President is now officially a FAILURE should this story be verified.
The Republican Party is in the toaster and getting warmer heading toward full toasting.
Butter and jelly anyone?
Agreed. The actions of this administration leave me dumbfounded. It is as though they want to loose the House in 06. It reminds me of his dad looking at his debate with Clinton where he stares down at his watch. The very second Bush41 reneged on the "read my lips, no new taxes" I knew he wasn't a true conservative. Bush's closest adviser is his wife, she is with him every night. I really don't know where she stands on many social issues but it is easy to see in the past where "nagging" wives have influenced their President husbands. I am not saying it in this case. However, someone with Coolidge's understanding of the Constitution would have done everything in their power to get rid, for example, the wholly unconstitutional Dept of Education. Anyone who cherishes Liberty and love of small government would never support unwieldy bureaucracies. To truly have the citizens educated we must separate State and school. Back on topic. I have tried and tried to understand why Bush is neglecting his base. I can only conclude he is either not truly a conservative or someone close is influencing him to be more socialist. Any way, I found this latest revelation, if true, to be absolutely disgusting.
I just can't hardly believe this. I mean, I know it is true, but it is so disappointing. How our government could treat Patriots this way is beyond me. The Republicans better put a stop to it.
Nice find. The Patriot Act is only gonna be used on "turrurists". Of course, just who's a terrorist is entirely subjective.
Wow do I feel proud that little ole me is now probably on their watch list. I've come along way baby.....as the cigarette dangles from my mouth./sarc....I don't smoke.
The Dems would push them over the border to be arrested by the Mexican military!!
This is sickening. Who do our pols work for?
bump
I don't understand your point.
If your point is the dems are worse, I say not that much worse based on what I see and hear lately when I wake up.
This is unbelievable. Treason of the highest order! I can't believe I voted for this president... twice! I had no idea that Bush would not only ignore the border situation completely, but to actively work against LEGAL citizens of this country who are LEGALLY protecting our borders and people of this country. All for what?! Cheap labor and votes? Good lord... I thought it couldn't get any worse than Clinton! If I never hear of the name Bush again, it'll be too soon.
Government and especially law enforcement cant stand to see someone else trying to do their job.
Vigilantism frightens them much worse than Al Quaeda, they cant let anyone be seen as doing what they cant or wont do.
Now while I dont see the minutemen as Vigilantes, the Law Enforcment system does. You can break the law all you want in this country that doesnt seem to matter a lot but never take the law into your own hands , they will track you down like a dog.
They obviously think they do not work for us. That is clear as crystal.
Bush sends our men and women to war, too many die, too many come home maimed yet Bush has refused to protect the home land from the Mexican border invasion. Now our own government (Bush) is caught being complicit in that invasion. Jail would be too good for any US official involved in this complicity.
Jerry Doyle planning to talk about this topic after the hard break.
Share your feelings entirely. It has been jaw-dropping shocking watching this President sell-out his base on a daily basis since his second term began.
Don't even try Jeb. Daddy and brother have destroyed your presidential ambitions.
Our next President.
I think I'll watch Lou Dobbs tonight, something I very rarily do.
They must get a boatload of crank calls because they always seem genuinely thrilled to hear some encouragement. (And, I'm certain I wasn't the only one to give them a heads-up on this.)
I'm still dumbfounded by it. I sit here as the raw truth about what this government is doing, informing a foreign hostile government the movement of law abiding American citizens, and have to stop myself from crying at the utter betrayal.
Sounds like Bush is wanting an international incident. If bodily harms comes to a minuteman, Bush could shut the minutemen down. I get a weird felling border security will be Bush's first veto.
bump again
I'm not even a hard-core border hawk, but this kind of thing (our government spying on U.S. citizens for a foreign government) just makes me sick.
I don't know, could it worse yes I guess it could.I'm just disgusted with the whole lot of them, what are we going to do? The Dems are slightly worst then the Republicans.I just want more real conservatives in office!!
This is unconscionable. I can barely contain my rage when I hear more about this.
It is time for all Republican's to stand tall and not stand for this. Remember we are the Republican party and we define where it goes.
I see this issue as another reason to call and demand this stop now. Support the Minutemen financially too. Support all anti-amnesty/strong border patrol candidates and politicians. If each and everyone of us do this, it will add up and shift what is happening. Keep the faith, do the footwork . . . what is the alternative? To give up and let out own government hand our country to the Mexicans? No!!
This is the time to participate and say we will not tolerate or except this betrayal. No blame, no passive whining--fight! Fight for America--our forefathers did and we shall too!
If the American gov't is against us, who's on our side?
Seriously folks, I haven't gotten a real response on this, but are we doomed to fight against a growing monster of a federal gov't? Is the Republic in which we live slowly turning into a nanny state that Reagan warned us about? I don't see any hope for the future of this country past 2008. If Bush has failed us, what's next?
I thought they said on FOX The President was behind this????
This story will go nowhere. the MSM will bury it, if it ever even makes it to the fore.
At some point this nation will split. The only bad thing will be the freepers won't get anything.
I don't know whether it's true or not. It's just too hard for me to believe it. If it IS true, it makes me identify with Dorothy in Oz--"I'm not in Oz anymore." If true, I don't recognize my country.
Chances are that he is the power that be who ordered this in the first place.
The Minutemen.
