Arrests Target Use of Illegal Workers

Federal authorities announced the arrests yesterday of four construction supervisors and 76 illegal immigrants at a Kentucky home-building company, continuing a promised government crackdown on employers that rely on illegal labor.

The arrests at Fischer Homes, a leading builder in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio, followed the April 19 arrests of seven current and former managers and more than 1,100 workers for Ifco Systems North America Inc., a subsidiary of a Dutch manufacturer of plastic crates and wooden pallets.

The effort comes as Congress debates plans to overhaul the nation's immigration laws.

"We will continue to bring criminal actions against employers who are consistently harboring illegal aliens," said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The four Fischer Homes managers were charged in a criminal complaint with aiding and abetting or harboring illegal immigrants for commercial or private financial gain. They face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Calls to company headquarters last night were not returned.

In recent weeks, Immigration and Customs Enforcement also has charged the owner of an Indiana stucco company in connection with an illegal employment scheme, won guilty pleas and the forfeiture of more than $1 million by operators of three Baltimore restaurants for conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants, and indicted two Ohio temporary-employment agencies and nine people on charges of hiring and harboring illegal

Make it illegal for companies to hire illegals and have real penelties and then illegal immigration will stop.
Noo job, no reason to be here.
Then make real penelties if caught here illegally. Make illegals build that f-ing wall if they are caught.

Good. Let's hope there's a lot more of this kind of thing in the works. These 'employers' are scum IMO. They're exploiting illegal aliens for personal financial gain. While they're at it they're depressing the wages for lawful American workers.

Throw the frigging book at 'em.

Big whoop. So, ICE can only work once a month? And then it's a hurry up and see how fast they can release them. I want raids 24/7 and long lines of buses heading south.

So when are they going to raid the companies who openly reported being closed for the May 1st protest?

Excellent, they need to do more of this especially on construction sites before November.

And secure the border by placing armed guards on the border and see us win big in Nov. Dems don't count us out yet!

What ever happened to the Union thugs picketing places where scabs were working and busting some heads. Why are they not doing the same at places where illegals are hired? Has the American Unions given up on helping Americans too?

It appears so, I remember a long time ago, my Dad would paint houses for friends, one day he was threatened by a union member to get off the ladder or be knocked off because unless he was a member of the union he was not allowed to paint any more homes.

WOW! It's simply amazing!

Two companies in what two weeks. Gee whiz. Way to Go. These agencies get how much to protect American borders?

Government agency actually rounds up illegals and charges employers with aiding an abetting illegals in their lawbreaking. Employers "might" get as much as 10 years in prison (and if you believe that one, there is still that bridge in Brooklyn for sale.)

So much for the daunted Department of Homeland Security chief, statement that there was no way we could deport illegals.

What is the legality of "contracting" illegal workers to your house, and then calling immigration authorities to come pick them up.

Let's be honest. This is just a peace offering. They are going to have to come down hard on employers/harborers of illegal aliens. The only people really nervous about this is the illegals. This is a gimmick done to make the American people believe the gov't is really hearing them. I say bullpucky. Quit pandering to the lobbyists and figure out what Senor Fox has on Bush. Lock down the borders and deport them all. And if they are deported for being here illegally, make it ten years plus before they can come back and try to do it the right way. Open the doors for the immigrants that want to come over legally and follow our laws and assimilate into our culture.

The local newspaper related the horror of several illegals caught in the round up, as related by a catholic nun. The nun helps bring illegals to our area. She helps set them up with contacts and other assistance. Why isn't this nun under arrest?

I believe they should arrest anyone giving safe harbor to illegal aliens. I'm a christian. I try my best to live by the bible and do as it says. I'm tired of all of these people saying they will disobey the law to help the illegals because the bible says we should help aliens. This is only partially correct. The bible says we should obey the laws of those put in authority over us. I'm all for helping them. Give them a meal, and then call the ICE. They need to be deported. There are too many other people trying to get into this country legally that are having these disrespectful, ungrateful people cut in line. There are other sides to this. They way that a lot of employers treat the illegals is just inhumane. It should be stopped. They only way it is going to be stopped is to fine and imprison the employers that employ them and make it too difficult for these people to find work. Make it impossible to end up on welfare or any kind of gov't subsistance. Close all of these free medical clinics, because we know they are not free, we are paying for them, and only have life and death emergency care available to them; then ship them out. I could go on, but I won't. I'm so frustated with our gov't and the president on this issue, I could just scream. My husband was in the Marines for many years, and we struggled above the poverty line, trying to raise our children. To see these aliens mooch off of the system, drives me nuts.
