A week after the desecration of the Great Synagogue in Petah Tikva, nothing remains of the horror the worshipers encountered there last Thursday when they arrived for morning prayers. The walls, which had been sprayed with swastikas and blasphemy, have been newly painted, the floor polished and the curtain covering the holy ark replaced.
However, the danger is far from over. For the past two years the ultra-Orthodox community there, which includes some 5,000 families and 300 synagogues, has been subjected to incessant attacks by street gangs from the former Soviet Union (FSU). The gangs have been beating ultra-Orthodox men, hurling curses at them and desecrating synagogues.
"These youths feel out of place in the Russian community they belong to, but they are not accepted in Israeli society either," says Bella Alexandrov, the director of the multi-disciplinary youth center in Petah Tikva. She distinguishes between two kinds of immigrants - punks and skinheads.
"The skinheads buy Russian videos about 'white power' that call for cleansing Russia of Jews.

Meanwhile, my son, an IDF combat veteran and 100% Jewish, was denied aliyah because he took part in an anti-disengagement demonstration.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
Doesnt make any sense
This is happening in Israel? There are "Jewish" skinheads?

Israel should be able to sort these assholes out quickly, unless their versions of bleeding heart judges and shyster lawyers stand in the way.
The idea that these things can take place in 'Eretz Yisra'el under the sovereignty of a "Jewish" state is so bizarre that no comment is possible.
I'm not clear. Is this happening in Israel or Russia?
This is insane. At the very least these punks should be deported. If I was an Israeli soldier, I would be hunting skinheads for sport on my time off.
Why would an anti-Semite claim to have a Jewish grandparent and then want to move to Israel...
...unless these are kids born in Israel and then becoming (obviously) seriously confused as young people.
I had to look it up myself. Petah Tikvah is indeed in Israel.
These are Russian gentiles, imported during the 1990's by the Jewish Agency, under the "Jewish according to Hitler" interpretation of the Law of Return. All it takes is to claim a Jewish grandparent, in many cases this alleged ancestor was bogus.
These people just wanted a free ticket out of Russia, and since they are the dregs of society no other country would take them.
Russian activists like Natan Sharansky and Iosif Mendelevich warned about this.
Never mind, I see now. Why doesn't Israel deport them. I would think that simply being a neo Nazi is in and of itself grounds for exclusion from Israel.
Because life in Russia sucks, the Jewish Agency was offering free tickets, and no other country wanted to take them.
Israel has an ACLU, too ?
Just make sure the orthodox youth learn krav maga. That will end things promptly.
I thought Sharansky supported the watered down definition of who a Jew is for the purposes of Aliyah. At least he gets blamed for it all the time. This is pathetic and shows how far Israel has fallen. It used to be that Jew haters Arab and otherwise were afraid of Israelis. Now they feel free to push Jews around in Israel. Israel will not survive this kind of thing if it is allowed to go on too long. Omert is so good at pushing settlers around, why is he so weak against non Jewish punks.
He never did.
