Bill Would Allow Textbooks to Include Information on Homosexuality
Written for the web by C. Johnson, Internet News Producer
The state Senate has approved legislation that would allow California public school textbooks to include information on homosexuality.
Senate Bill 1437, sponsored by St. Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica, modifies current law to prohibit the state Board of Education or any school governing body from adopting texts that contain information that reflects negatively on race, ethnicity, gender, disability, nationality, sexual orientation or religion.
Current law is less inclusive, barring texts or instructional materials that reflect adversely upon persons because of race, sex, color, creed, handicap, national origin or ancestry.
The Senate voted 22-15 in favor of SB 1437.
Because the new bill specifically mentions sexual orientation, critics of the measure believe it will promote homsexuality. Randy Thomasson, the president of the Campaign for Children and Families, which describes itself as a California pro-family organization, issued this statement on the Senate's expected approval of SB 1437. "SB 1437 would turn every California school into a sexual indoctrination center," Thomasson said. "This bill isn't about 'safety' or 'discrimination,' it's about leading children into sexual confusion and destroying their respect for the natural family." He added he would urge the governor to veto the bill.
The bill's passage was also not without controversy. "I don't believe in injecting politics into history. It's just that simple,' said St. Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks. "A person's sexual orientation to their contributions in the historical context. This is injecting a brazenly political agenda into California textbooks. and that's offensive to an awful lot of parents."
All Republican and one Democrat senator voted no on AB 1437.
"People have said to me, why do you need to do this? Why do people have to know,' said Kuehl. "And I think it's important to expand these protections to LBGT people because mention of any significant contributions to the history and social fabric of California is non-existent in our textbooks and our officially adopted school instructional materials."
SB 1437 now moves to the Assembly for debate.
On the upside of the bill - it also covers religion. But I wonder how they would feel if we started examining the beliefs of people in history and how that has affected things, and not just sexual orientation...
Your California Duma at work. SUCKERS!
I just sent an e-mail to Arnold: If you don't veto this bill, you don't get my vote.
Leftist indoctrination against the family continues.

The article kind of tones down the actual requirements of the bill. Here's an excerpt of the actual language.
"60040. When adopting instructional materials for use in the schools, governing boards shall include only instructional materials which, in their determination, accurately portray in an age-appropriate manner the cultural, racial , gender, and sexual orientation diversity of our society, including:
(snip)
....(c) The contributions of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to the total development of California and the United States."
There's no way of doing that without introducing the sexual orientation of those people into the discussion. So the bill is, essentially, requiring educators to support homosexuality. An appropriate bill would simply prohibit discrimination against ANY group, without chosing some for special treatment.
Too bad it won't include the truth of their choice.
Urge Gov. Schwarzenegger to VETO a trio of bills that would transform California schools into transsexual-bisexual-homosexual indoctrination centers.
Visit the Campaign for Children and Families website for information on the proposed legislation, contact information to oppose the legislation, and to use CCF's Email Lobbying System (allows you to send a custom email to influence Governor Schwarzenegger. This is free speech -- you are exercising your First Amendment right to "petition the government for a redress of grievances.")
