May 11, 2006 -- The 2004 Republican National Con vention presented New York City with an age-of-terror public-safety challenge of unprecedented scope - and the NYPD, with characteristic brisk efficiency, did Gotham proud.
Not to hear The New York Times tell it, though. The paper's campaign to smear the NYPD's policing of the event is rising to new levels of absurdity - and now it's enlisted the Civilian Complaint Review Board into the effort.
The paper yesterday published excepts from a CCRB letter to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly - a document leaked to the paper before it was even delivered to the commissioner.

The NYPD did an amazing job at the RNC Convention in 2004. People had a heck of a lot more freedom of expression than they did in Boston, and violence was all but non-existant.
The NY Times still can't get over the fact that they were denied their very own orgy of violence, a Chicago '68 to sully the Republicans. Frankly, I don't know how anybody can look at the results here and say the policing of the RNC Convention was anything other than an unqualified success.
But these are the same folks who whine that it took three weeks to conquer Iraq instead of two-and-a-half...
...Chairman Hector Gonzalez and Executive Director Florence Finkle blasted cops for "tactics" used during the event. They demand that "the department review the training it provides" for policing demonstrations.
What did the cops do wrong?
Twice, the agency says, they failed to use a bullhorn to issue commands. And once, a cop failed to make clear whether his order to "clear the streets" included sidewalks.
Huh?
Simply amazing!
I stayed away from NYC during the RNC Convention, but the Thin Blue Line did an amazing job of controlling the wacko trash and garbage.
I kept yelling *shoot on sight* at the TV during those times when the networks showed the violence and vandalism.
Oh no, what a horrible nazi police state we live in! Those damn right wingers who run New York should be ashamed.
I love sarcasm.
I bailed on NYC as well. I heard from my friends who stayed that unless you went looking for trouble, you would not have even know there was anything going on. It was "Business As Usual" for 99% of the city.
The idiots on the Left had their a$$es handed to them, and for some reason feel the need to constant remind us all of that fact.
Yo! Lefty Moonbats!
You talk a good game, but you are impotent!
You are spent as a political force! Your time is over!
Get off the stage!

They also advised disruptors to spoof the bomb-sniffing dogs by handling fireworks and ammunition before getting on the Subway, so the dogs would detect the trace odor and alert on them, requiring the police to close the station.
Lovely folks, aren't they? Why wouldn't we be eager to trust them with the Levers of Power?
Why wouldn't we trust them with the Levers of Power?
In the first tragic hours after the planes hit on 9/11, I prayed so many prayers, and my mind was racing, but I do remember praying, "Thank you, Almighty God, that it is not a President Al Gore". Before that day, I , like so many others, did not see President George W. Bush for the man that he is, the man who will not appease the murdering Islam terrorists.
Al Gore would have never stood up in the Congress and before the world and openly denounced that Axis of Evil, and called them by name.
The sick America haters that we are stuck with here do such things that you describe. That reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw on a big Caddy in a HHI parking lot:
ANNOY A LIBERAL
WORK HARD AND BE HAPPY!
