The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" Thread
5.12.06 | ohioWfan

Posted on 05/12/2006 5:47:27 PM PDT by ohioWfan

I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.

This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.

What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!

We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.

There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.

There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.

So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.

Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.

What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?

If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

This is America………..and we are Freepers! Let’s ROLL!

1. Every year the Social Security Administration receives on the order of 9 million payments from employers that cannot be matched to legitimate citizens social security numbers. Give the list of employers making those payments to local law enforcement and have all of the illegals exposed and deported. All of the employers should be fined.

2. Advise legislators that if they continue to selectively permit laws to be violated with no consequence, that we the taxpayers of America will no longer be paying our taxes. If 11 or 12 million taxpayers say "NO MORE", maybe that would get congress' attention. I would presume that if they can't find and deport 11 million illegals, they could not find or imprison 11 million tax delinquents. RIGHT!

Part of the problem is getting them to use words correctly. Have you heard John McCain discuss this? He says things like "Amnesty is forgiveness - this isn't forgiveness, its a path to citizenship."

Widespread ridicule would end crap like this in a heartbeat. Rush used to be the master, but he's cruising to retirement, apparently.

The House bill doesn't, but the Senate bill does. Reconciling those two positions isn't going to happen IMO.

But I'll wait and see what the President has to say Monday night.

WHATEVER he says?

Trublu, I think we're assuming he is going to move in our direction ... and if he does it will be important not to entirely reject the overture.

If we're wrong, and he goes on national TV just to rub McCain/Kennedy in the faces of conservatives ... nothing we can do here will save him or the Republicans.

"That's another thing that has to stop is these myths and demonization of business."

That's BS Dane.

Hiring an illegal is just as criminal as being one.

There are lot's of jobs being lost to illegals.

Maybe an "off the books" worker IS making $20.00 / hour, but if you know anything about running a business, you know that wages are just a part of what an employer pays.

No, the employer is just as culpable as the employee.

I think we all have a good idea where he is headed.
He is the president for another couple of yrs so we are going to have to work with and craft around it.

I am more hard core than I have stated but I also live in the world of reality and the - I am picking up my marbles and going home attitude I see on FR and dividing the republican party to put democrats in power who will in turn
open the border big time with no hope of ever stopping.

He probably won't say too much. The border governors are already lining up in opposition to troops. Arnie just came out against it and the others will follow.

My two senators are Menendez and Lautenberg. My new governor is Corzine.

We have a new Mayor in NJ's largest city. He will try to do the right thing. All the powers that be are lined up against him.

Mayor Blooming-idiot in NYC just loves the illegals. Keeps saying how much they bring to the city. How they bring more money than they cost.

Mayor Blooming-idiot lies thru his teeth.

If there is a federal law against allowing anchor babies in school that may help but I don't know if that is constitutional.

It's a monumental problem.

I already commented on Step One (trying to keep up with everyone here).

I think your conclusion is right, and the other steps look valid to me at first glance.

Now how do WE help implement them in the real world?

You're on the edge tru....... state your positive suggestions for what we can do, please.

Sorry, simply asking a question.

My positive suggestions? Have our elected reps allow the law to be enforced, with no amnesty. The current law. The only thing wrong with current law is that it is not enforced. How we get our reps to do this outside of open political revolt is something I look forward to someone else coming up with.

"No, the employer is just as culpable as the employee."

I agree they share equally in the illegal contract.

Do you have something constructive to add besides attacking another freeper?

The purpose of the thread is to be civil. Something getting more and more rare these days.

There is no immigration problem. If you truly believe this is a free country, then you must believe in open immigration; else you are just somewhere along the road to police statism and national IDs, with an asterisk perpetually attached to the word "liberty." Or perhaps you are merely infected by anti-Hispanicism.

End of thread!

Like I said, immediate emergency life saving care is an exception. But it shouldn't be too difficult to ascertain who's a lawful resident and who isn't in about 15 minutes.

Do they have a SS card?

Do they have a Green Card?

Can they produce a birth certificate?

Do they have a valid DL?

Prospective employees have to satisfy the requirements of an I-9 form, why not folks who are demanding thousands and thousands of dollars of medical care?

If they can't produce any of the above documents, then throw a call into the BP and have them rounded up as soon as they're healthy enough to transport.

I support whatever measures we can take at the border to stop the flow. Then we can discuss what to do with the people who are already here

I agree with this too. I think if they are here and allowed to be here by the non-enforcement of our laws, we have a moral obligation not to turn them away when they are ill. Try sitting in a crowded ER, with very ill folks, and try to sort out the "are you legal" issue. Would break my heart. This problem will subside once the flow is curtailed, and remedies put in place.

I know, a bit extreme, but if nothing else works and Fox won't enforce rule of law in his own country, why should we hold back.

It's about sovereignty. They ignore US sovereignty, but in the same breath declare sovereinty over US territory (California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas), so why should we hold back? Sounds like a declaration of war by weenies not willing to fight for it.

Arnold just stated opposition to troops so the border governors are going to block it. I can't think of one of them that would support this especially in an election year. It's one thing to say that legal Hispanics are against illegal Hispanics but quite another to see troops rounding them up.
