The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" Thread
5.12.06 | ohioWfan

Posted on 05/12/2006 5:47:27 PM PDT by ohioWfan

I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.

This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.

What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!

We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.

There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.

There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.

So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.

Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.

What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?

If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

This is America………..and we are Freepers! Let’s ROLL!

All of those jobs both blacks and whites are just itching to get their hands on.

It is a supply and demand thingie. If there is a shortage or workers, wages go up. Restaurants will become much more expensive in some places. The area where it will be difficult, very difficult, is in the construction industry. There will need to be an immediate temporary worker regime in that area, or there will be severe economic disruption. Hispanics, including a bunch of illegals, tend to do that kind of work so much better than much of the rest, and the demand supply price curve I suspect is pretty inelastic in the short to medium term.

Step one, alpha, primo and numero uno: Stop the influx by whatever means short of killing them.

Step two: actively enforce existing laws against both employers and I.A.s and remove "sanctuary city" laws, like Special Order 40.

Step three: disincentives. Remove illegal aliens from all governmental benefits, including the right to use anchor babies. Tell 'em their offspring is welcome to stay for adoption, or to return later upon adulthood, thanks, goodbye. No licenses of any sort, driver or professional. No housing funds. Proof of citizenship on all governmental applications and VOTES.

Step four: make the path to legal immigration MUCH easier and cheaper and increase the amount accepted annually. All current applicants stay ahead in line.

Step five: Require English proficiency for everything. Not just in govt., but all of us insist that our vendors, employees, and any service workers we pay money deal with us in English. It is the key to assimilating them and the antidote to producing ghettos full of optionless people.

The bennies the illegals get are the same in all states only we have tens of thousand more being near the border.
There are federal program also.
When Calif tried to put through 187, the Mexicans marched in the streets here in the 90s with union support.
This problem is not new just now other folks are seeing the problem we must find soultions for.

Good thoughts ... troops might be a good stopgap, but probably not a long term solution ... I don't share your aversion to a fence, though I understand it.

Maybe the complications you mention are the reason the Beltway folks think we need a "comprehensive" solution.

I still think it will simplify the debate if we can focus on one half the problem at a time.

suspect cheap money has more to do with that than the ultra-affordable price of housing, don't you?

Nope because cheap money has always been with us until the seventies.

My wish list and misc. rambling thoughts;

Pass a law requiring gov't enforce any new immigration laws they pass.
Pass a law requiring everybody show ID to vote (this includes dead people and dims voting twice).
No more anchor babies.
No amnesty.
Increase legal immigration, stremeline the process.
Secure both the southern and northern borders, this is not just about illegal immigration.
Gotta have interior enforcement too.
Like it or not, the Real ID act is law, use it to assist with interior enforcement and employment authotization.
Yup, we can't reasonably remove 12 million people and we don't want to live in a police state.
I don't have a problem giving many of these folks (no leaches or criminals) work visas, but no path to citizenship.
Everybody who doesn't qualify for worker visas should be deported.
We don't have to run them down, just require law enforcement to determine citizenship when persons are arrested for other reasons.
Illegal entry or overstaying visas should require deportation and forfeiture of any future ability to return.

Once we have reduced the flow to a trickle, we can solve the problem of the ones already here.

Bingo.

I am afraid that most folks have staked out their own half of the problem and won't give an inch. I don't actually believe any bill will be passed and we will just muddle along as we have for the last 40 years.

So is it the Congress that needs to improve the ID system?

They are the only game in town on this issue, and then of course, Bush needs to sign the bill. Bush hasn't shown much interest in a better ID system, which is one of the reasons I don't think his proposals will work on the stick side. And that is quite disturbing and disquieting, because the carrot side, will encourage a larger influx of illegals. In fact, that is what is happening now, as folks try to get in, under the perceived wire, even though I don't think the proposed wire has any barbed aspects to it.

DUmocrats have already aborted their future and since their own constituents are becoming more educated about the policies their party supports, their numbers will continue to dwindle. The DUmocrat plantation is in jeopardy.

That's why the blanket amnesty proposals of 1986 and 2006...the DUmocrat party is slowly running out of ways to commit voter fraud, so they need as many dead, ballot-stuffing, felon, illegal, crack-for-votes, double-votes that they can get to remain in their positions of power.

Who better to fill that void than the uneducated. A whole new victim class to keep under their proverbial thumb.

In the construction industry I see some specility subcontractors that use medium skilled work crews in the drywall, painting and concrete work that need large crews hire a large number of hispanic tradesmen for the hard dirty work. They get the I-9 information and even photocopy the drivers liscense and SSN card.
They like work level of the crews. If the SSN contributions go through the system, they employ the illegals with the legals.
Their is no easy way for them to check beyond the I-9 requirements. There is no website they can plug the SSN number into and get a photo back to confirm an employment that will only last from 12 to 32 weeks that their trade is involved.
They pay high wages for the area, equal to union norms, and these are who they can find that know the trade. Often it runs fifty percent hispanic applicants for jobs paying very well.

Nope because cheap money has always been with us until the seventies.

Having an intimate familiarity with the housing market in the late eighties onward, at least in CA where the illegal problem is most acute, I'll have to disagree with you there.
