The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" Thread
5.12.06 | ohioWfan

Posted on 05/12/2006 5:47:27 PM PDT by ohioWfan

I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.

This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.

What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!

We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.

There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.

There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.

So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.

Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.

What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?

If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

This is America………..and we are Freepers! Let’s ROLL!

Yeah those "evil" people who take the financial risks to put food on America's table or shelter over American's heads, they are just dispicable.

I can't believe that you're still using this dumb argument. Law-abiding people who take financial risks to put food on America's table o shelter over America's heads are not evil. No one is saying that they are - as long as they're not criminals.

I think you have some great ideas here. I could very much get behind a program like you suggest. I might quibble with a few details but the overall thrust I agree with 100%. I do think in addition to enforcing employment laws we also need to cut off all cash flow to include anything that is government sponsored. Once we get the cash flow cut off most will go home.

One other thing and please don't take this personally. I grow tired of seeing many people qualify their statements with something like "this is not about race" If it is not about race then quit apologizing for it. That is a defensive response to typical socialistic and leftest attack propaganda.

Replace INS/Border Patrol DC “administrators” with “guest workers” . . . if ever there was a job Americans are unwilling to do!

From my very first post on this thread: Here's my solution (well, not really mine but piece meal from other places, but anyways).

An apology would be nice.

Okay, I read your link. I owe you NOTHING, except another history and financial lesson; not to mention a suggestion that you learn how to debate and write cogent, comprehensive posts.

I thought that this was exactly the type of post that was requested to be absent from this thread.

You have a problem with factual history lessons?

I have requested that all posts be respectful to each other.

Most of the post is fine..........the 'knee jerking' could have/should have been left out, IMO.

I'm only here to steer the conversations upward.........for whatever that's worth.

This discussion is to be about the issue, not personalities. For the most part, people have adhered to that nicely.

(For the MOST part).

Keep it up, OK? :)

Anything to contribute to the discussion, Nittany?

Up to this point it's been 90% civil.

Your thoughts on the issue?

Can we steer away from the personal, and stick with the issue, please?

Thanks.

Out of respect to and in agreement with our hostess,I will not respond to you and urge everyone else to do likewise. This has been a fine thread, and you shouldn't be allowed to succeed in disrupting it. Enough said.

Okay, point taken. ;-)

FWIW, I think closing the border, enforcing criminal sanctions for employers who hire illegals and limiting benefits would largely solve the problem. I know some folks are for forced deportation, but I think that's political suicide. Deny work and benefits, and I believe many of those already here will self-deport. (And it goes without saying, no amnesty)

Good thread so far...I've enjoyed it.

"...then current US law unambiguously assures your right to keep both citizenships for life.

"and it is now much easier to retain such a status without a fight than it used to be."

"...However, the State Department is no longer actively pursuing cases of this nature in most situations."

"...the US State Department no longer minds."

"Similarly, the State Department doesn't seem to be doing anything any more to people who renounce their US citizenship as part of a foreign country's "routine" naturalization procedure..."

My, isn't all of this encouraging?

Should really help us avoid balkanization, speed up assimilation and produce even more loyal Americans...

Thanks for uncovering one more very significant part of the overall immigration problem. Anyone holding onto a dual citizenship should be prohibited from being an American citizen.

One American citizenship = one sworn allegiance to America.

Would you rather that I had phrased it another way? If so, I would have had to explain it with far harsher language, which would have been against your original request.

If you are able of coming up with something a bit more PC, for people who constantly fall for spurious, over heated propaganda, put out by those who have been directly responsible for the dilemma, please let me know.

As for the rest of my post, it is historically accurate and much needed to be said.

The secret to the success of this thread so far, is that people have been really good at sticking to the issue, and not going after each other..........even if they've done it often before (I'm including myself in that 'people' group. :)

I've been impressed........I mean REALLY impressed, with the self-discipline of so many with such strong views.

This has been GOOD! (Didn't know if it actually would happen, but it has).

I completely agree that what you posted really needed to be said. Our involvement at the local level is critical, because that is clearly where much of the problem has germinated from. And, IMO, the Clinton administration then codified and legallized and nationalized the problem, and President Bush is left cleaning up yet another mess that Clinton left.

As to the first part.........if we don't talk about any particular group of people at all, we can keep moving forward. Plenty of threads for that. So far that's been working here.
