I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.
This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.
What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!
We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.
There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.
Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.
There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.
So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.
Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.
What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?
If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

I certainly agree with that, but not necessarily in that order. I'd like to see our government secure the border first.
Then, knowing that no new common criminals or terrorists are going to enter the country that way, I'd step up workplace enforcement efforts in order to dry up the demand for cheap (illegal) labor.
It makes absolutely no sense for us to fine employers if we aren't going to first shut down the flood of illegals crossing our southern border. And as for my emphasis on the southern border, see Rep. J.D. Hayworth's book.
Great plan Spiff! I sure hope there's a Rep. Congresscritter or two hanging out with this thread.
I think the consensus here is that border security is number one priority.
I haven't finished it yet, either, but I agree so far with most everything he has said in it. And, his plan follows fairly closely what Spiff has suggested.
I made my post early on without reading many of the comments...it's telling that most folks who think about the problem with reason understand that you have to plug the dike before you can drain the swamp.
The name of the book is Whatever It Takes - Illegal Immigration, Border Security, and the War on Terror.
It's been really obvious, hasn't it? I hope the dike is plugged quickly............I believe that this thread has helped a lot of people who wouldn't come near the typical shout-fest immigration threads see what's really going on.
And that is a critical element of becoming politically active in getting the problem solved.

3 million per year would mean that only the criminals and terrorists would risk crossing the border - no wall is needed for that.

by 'this' do you mean spanish? or references to homosexuality? If it's spanish, we have a store here that sells only name brand merchandis with spanish labels - if you mean the other, well, I always thought something was a little funny about Cap'n Crunch!
I was asking if it would still be legal to send more than $300 to another country if it were illegal to send it to Mexico.
I am against racial quotas wherever they would exist - if more than 3 million apply to come in, we can always raise the rate.
Ironically, the money sent to Mexico doesn't really hurt us. What can a Mexican do with American money? Spend it. On what? American goods. After all, the money is no good in Mexico. So the payments sent to Mexico actually benefit our export industries. The money comes home.
There are enough real problems with the flood of Mexican illegals that we don't need to confuse the issue with a non-problem.
The real benefit from putting a cap on the amount sent to Mexico, or a tax on the amount, is that it makes it no longer profitable for the Mexican government to encourage emigration and remittances. Is that worth the trouble of enforcing a tax or a cap? I'm not sure. I think there are more effective things we can do.
Actually the best answer economically is to do nothing and let the market forces determine the number. Once there is full employment among the Mexicans the excess will move back home. As long as there is work they will come.

I think that's the case more often than not. Thank heaven we have a man who says and does what he belives is right - a real leader - at this point in history.

THE ILLEGALS ARE COMING…. THE ILLEGALS ARE HERE.
Are you upset about the millions attending the illegal aliens rallies? Do you wonder if there are 11 million or 20 million here illegally? If there is an amnesty will it be 100 million in 8 years? Why is it that we don't see millions of American citizens and those who work to come here LEGALLY gather to show their numbers?
Well, they have jobs. But what are you doing on the 4th of July? Most businesses will be closed and Americans will be taking off that day. Now is the time for US to gather all across the States in so many vast numbers that the media and our politicians will have to notice.
So like Paul Revere I'm handing you a message that I'm hoping you will pass it along in all manner of ways when you hear the question, “what are you going to do for the 4th of July?”
Here is the plan: We can gather at our City hall, at the County courthouse, and our States Capital and even at the fireworks show that we attend. Wherever we go on the 4th of July we can carry our American flag and a couple of signs printed off the computer. “Secure the Borders”, “Stop the Invasion”, and “Enforce the laws we already have”
There are 7 _ weeks before the 4th of July, Independence Day for us to spread the word; we can celebrate what the Founding Fathers did for us in 1776. And in the year 2006 “pass it forward” by showing our government that 80% of US expect them to do what Article 4 section 4 of the US Constitution says the US government …“shall protect each (State) of them against Invasion;”
So if you accept, I deputize you the “next Paul Revere runner”. Send this message to all on your email list, post it on all websites/blogs you visit/own and talk it up a storm. Send letters to the editor, talk show radio hosts (local & national), spread the word across the land. Let the newspapers and TV news, The President and our Congressmen know that we believe in the importance of coming here legally.
And then most of all everyone gather peacefully somewhere on the 4th of July. Carry your own water & signs, obey the laws for “peaceably assembling”, clean up after yourselves and let US “petition the government for a redress of grievances”.
