These cruise ships just keep getting bigger and bigger. If this trend of building bigger and bigger ships continues, someday we will be sailing on ships that are 40 miles long, 300 stories high and they will carry 11.5 million passengers.

Eventually, we are going to run out of ocean and this concerns me.

Not complicated...however, the physics of the instrument would preclude a rock version.

Insofar as 'looking things up' is concerned,
1)I have a well developed reference library of thousands of American songs which I refer to on a regular basis.
2) I have my own distinct musical taste which does not include sea shanties.

I don't trust Google not to make a search selection based on their own political philosophy, and not to collect personal information for some later use or sale. I also will not use the Google desk top search software. Ask.com is working well for me.

Right, that's the name. No disagreement. The article says she christened "Freedom of the Sea", singular. I wonder if that is the reporter's mistake or if she really misspoke.

Thank god it wasn't named 'Titanic'.

I don't really know what to tell you, as it's hard to believe someone would get the name of a ship wrong when christening a ship. But, maybe she did make a mistake. It can happen. Or the reporter got it wrong. That can happen, too. Maybe it's just a typo.

The article says this christening was shown on the TODAY show, so perhaps if someone were to get a copy of the videotape, it would be clearer what happened here.

But, if I was christening a ship, I think I would at least get the name right. At least I hope so!

That's interesting. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I have not read a whole lot about this; I've only heard bits and pieces here and there. However, I can understand your concern for your privacy. And, I'm not really familiar with Ask.com but maybe I'll try it.

There was a comparison about this ship's tonnage vs. the Titanic mentioned in the article:

Built by Norwegian shipbuilder Aker Yards ASA, the ship cost $800 million and can carry more than 4,000 passengers. The world's previous largest ship, the Queen Mary 2, can carry about 3,000 people and is 151,400 gross registered tons. The Titanic's gross registered tonnage was 46,329.

Re your post #42 - BTW, the rest of your post was interesting, too. I meant to say that before, but, I have been on the computer way too long tonight. So, again, good night -- and, enjoyed chatting!

Wow, that would be a thrill!

Especially after the cruise is over and you and 4500 of your closest friends have disembarked and are trying to find a cab to the airport.

I just returned late yesterday from FReeps Ahoy 4. We were on the Caribbean Princess which I believe is the largest ship regularly plying the the Caribbean at this time. It's three football fields long and about 18 stories high.

We had a great freeper cruise, but in truth, I'll never go on one of these behemoths again, never. You walk yourself to death. It was WORK. Things you wanted to see or do seemed to be always at the other end of the ship, as Murphy's Law dictates. I could go on about these huge new ships, but you get my drift.
