We have found a remarkable recording from the Bergen Belsen Death Camp of the recently liberated inmates singing “Hatikvah”. This recording is a piece of history and makes the connection between the loss of the 6 million and the burning desire for the creation of a Jewish State. Sit down and listen: this is a short recording that you will remember for the rest of your life.
We Jews who are Republicans (growing in number) and rational minded Democrat Jews (quickly becoming Republicans) appreciate and thank G-d for the support of President George W. Bush and our Christian Zionist brothers in the support of the State of Isreal. Not because American Jews have split loyalties, but because we all realize there is no Judiasm without the individual liberty that is woven into the conservative spirit, and the realization that Israel exists today because of that spirit and the largess of the American people. If the Jews had a homeland in the 1930's, the holocaust would not have been nearly as devastating to the Jewish population. The same is true today, except that today's threats have drastically changed and our tactics must change to fight them. But fight them we will as we will never again allow the enemies of freedom to take the toll that they once did. Jews have been the canaries in coal mine of freedom and liberty. As Jews have been treated poorly, so goes the rest of the region. The same is now sadly true of Christians in Muslim dominated lands as well. This is why we must fight against those forces who oppose individual liberty, freedom of religion (not freedom from religion as the Left believes). One big difference between Nazi Germany and Iraq is that the Jews and others liberated from concentration camps didn't have "religious leaders" telling them that their liberators were the "Great Satan" - and those freed were intelligent enough not to have believed such if they HAD tried.
Unlike the Iraqis.
If Judaism's survival depended on Demoncrats, the deathknell of the religion would be sounding loudly, today.
Anyone who thinks American Jews are smart needs to spend just one hour listening to members of my congregation talk politics. That'll change your opinion pronto.

Right.
It was a Democrat who made frineds with that anti-Semite Stalin and really trusted him, turned back a shipload of Jewsuh refugees, refused to accept any Jewish refugees from Germany, and refused to bomb the rail lines supporting the extermination camps - FDR - the Democrats' God.
It was also sung and hummed over aircraft radio intercoms during an African war of the late 1960s by some of the Belair mercenary pilots [probably not Israeli but possibly with some American machalnik Jews in their midst] who entertained the Muslum Nigerians and their Egyptian and Syrian MiG pilot instructors with the tune as a reminder of how the Migs and their crews had performed in the then-recent Six Days War.
There are some pretty lively piano renditions of the song. But it's most probable Spielburg doesn't hang out in the circles where he'd ever hear them....
