US: PA gov’t will collapse without aid

American sources say Hamas-led Palestinian government will collapse within three months if transfer of monetary aide to Authority is not resumed; Western diplomatic sources in Washington say it was also decided to open bank accounts for Palestinian Authority officials so they may receive theirs salaries without any money passing through the PA government

Roee Nahmias

Sources in the US said the Hamas-led Palestinian government will collapse within three months if the transfer of monetary aid to the Authority is not resumed.

The sources confirmed to the London-based al-Hayat newspaper that the EU, Jordan and Egypt have committed themselves not to transfer funds directly to the Palestinian government, adding that Palestinian banks will be forced to stand by their obligations to avoid confiscation by international banks.

Haniyeh is making a grave mistake

A senior State Department official lauded Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia’s participation in the Quartet meeting last week, during which it was agreed to transfer funds to the PA directly via a special fund that will be supervised by an international body such as the World Bank or UN.

Western diplomatic sources in Washington said that it was also decided to open bank accounts for Palestinian Authority officials so they may receive theirs salaries without any money passing through the PA government.

The sources added that the steps taken will prevent a humanitarian crisis in the territories while making certain that the economic siege on Hamas will persist as long asthe terror group refuses to denounce terror and recognize Israel or past agreements signed between Israel and the PA.

“(PA Prime Minister) Ismail Haniyeh is making a grave mistake by believing that the EU will not follow through on the steps it has decided on in order to apply pressure on the Hamas-led government,” a senior American official said, adding that the EU views Hamas as a terror organization.

Here is the problem:

supervised by an international body such as the World Bank or UN

They used supervise and UN/World Bank in the same sentence.

So it's Ok to pay bin Ladin and his staff if the money doesn't go through al-Qaeda?

We are living in the Twilight Zone. Constructed by the Terrorist fighting Bush Administration.

"Is there actually a single sentient human being anywhere who cares about this?"

I'm afraid that the division of the State Department that handles the affairs of the area desire that there be no resolution of the crisis between the Palestinians and Israel.

It keeps the bureaucrats at State feeling relevant.

If you read a headline saying "Cuba will collapse without aid", how quickly would Washington send aid?

Why is the Bush Administration concerned about the standard of living of genocidal savages?

Are they as concerned about the actual dying in Dafur?

You know in Israel they plant trees in honor of donors.

Maybe the savages can start naming their terrorist acts in honor of their donors.

The Killing in Tel Aviv brought to you by an American taxpayer from Dallas, for the dead Israelis in Jerusalem thank you, you know who you are, in Boston.

The State Department insists on proving me right again and again. The PA is not viable as an independent entity. Separate from Israel, separate from their arab mother countries Jordan and Egypt there is no economy, there are no jobs, no markets, nothing at all.

There will never be an independent arab west bank and there will never be an independent Gaza. Every day we waste pursuing this fantasy, every dollar we pour down this rathole is another day and another dollar wasted. More importantly, the longer we waste time on something that will never be, the longer we delay the development of solutions that could work.

Meanwhile innocent Israelis and deluded arabs go on dying.

The effort to establish what will never be has done nothing but kill Israelis and arabs alike.

With respect to the content of the article, PA is at war with Israel. Until they surrender, not one cent of aid should be allowed reach PA control. If PA collapses for lack of foreign funding, as it will, this only demonstrates that it was an artificial creation from the beginning.

Why not give each of the little darlings a luxury condo in Manhattan too.

This country has gone as mad as a $hithouse rat.

Let Jimmy Carter personally bankroll them.

He can start a new humanitarian venture called "Habitats for Hamas".
