MATTHEWS: Draw us a picture of what happened in Haditha.
MURTHA: Well I'll tell you exactly what happened. One Marine was killed and the Marines just said we're gonna take care...we don't know who the enemy is, the pressure was too much on them, so they went into houses and actually killed civilians and...I...
MATTHEWS: Was this My Lai? When you say cold blood Congressman, a lot of people think you're basically saying you've got some civilians sitting in a room or out in a field and they're executed on purpose...
MURTHA: That's exactly what happened.
MATTHEWS: ...not because any of the Marines are scared or anybody is scared...
MURTHA: ...this was not an action...this was not...first they tried to say it was an IED, there was no IED involved in this. This was troops, they were so stressed out, they went into houses and killed children, women and children. 24 people they killed. Now this is the kind of stress they are under. Listen, I don't excuse it, but I understand what's happening and the responsibility goes right to the top. This is something that should not have happened, that should have been investigated, they've already relieved three commanding officers...but this is the kind of stuff...stress is going to cause these kind of things. That's why I'm so upset about it.
MATTHEWS: Congressman, I just want to read something from the Marine Corps and then you can continue. The Marine Corps told us today that they're not going to comment today because the investigation is still ongoing. So they're investigating...

Sorry, freema, but I don't find my original statement to you. How long has what been going on? M
You posted to Coop about your friend the Air Force recruiter in Connecticut who says they don't wear their uniforms on the street for fear of violence-they wear their civilian clothes to the office and then suit up. I wondered if they've been doing that all along, or in the last year, or 6 months.
Please pass along my best regards to him/her.
He's been there about a year now, I think, and has just been sent to Quatar for a few months. I don't know when that all started. My husband and I only today were talking about the lack of respect for John McCain and Condi Rice this week at the colleges. If they only realized the sacrifices McCain made when he was serving in the armed forces. These liberals really don't care about those who serve to keep those bums free to protest. It really ticks me off.
Ticks me off too. I hear reports like yours, sporadically-in different areas of the country and I hadn't heard any lately. I was hoping that had ceased.
We've learned nothing as a nation in 30-some years. Well, perhaps not nothing. Because this time around plenty of us are fighting back.
There HAS to be an especially hot and tormenting spot in hell for these people (I hesitate even to use that term). I remember only too well what happened to the Vietnam Vets and you're right, we haven't learned anything from that.
I'm happy to hear that this anger at Murtha appears to be significantly boosting Diana's campaign coffers. She'll need the money to effectively fight that entrenched jerk.
Ping to my #327. Let's keep the momentum going!
Ping fdor eliminating Murtha...... $25 will be money well spent
I agree wholeheartedly! Some will give more, some less. But it all adds up in a big way. And just seeing peopel from all over taking the time to send in a donation has to give Diana and her staff a psychological boost!
I wonder what the average donation has been over the past few days?
Glad to hear that the increase in donations is continuing. I have been listing her site address on any thread that someone even refers to Murtha or his opponent and had a few replies from donors.
Murtha ping
Please let me know if you or anyone would like to be on the Irey/Murtha ping list.
Thank you. Your efforts are indeed paying dividends.
Thanks. It is a very sad man who claims war hero status. I grew up with men with both WWII and Korean War combat service around our house on many occasions, and; later I served with some of these same men in RVN. Many of these men were real war heroes. "Not one single man ever said a word about what he did in combat, much less ever talk about his medals." BEWARE OF THOSE WHO TALK ABOUT MEDALS OR COMBAT.
Although he was very active with Vietnam veteran organizations, my father never discussed his combat service when I was growing up. It was just something he took an oath to do, and he did it admirably.
Bump
Just added my modest donation to the pot. :-)
