Not on FR. Most of us use Hoppe's Number Nine as cologne.

We're all dead serious, but what else is there to do, debate the morality of self-defense?

If this was one of those cases where someone shot at a fleeing theft suspect, there would be more in-depth analysis of the propriety and legality of the action. This is more cut and dried, so a round-table discussion isn't as necessary.

Why do so many Freepers respond to news stories with wisecracks instead of being serious?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You need to hang around a bit, since you joined only on the 18th of April.

These wise cracks are contextual, because the media wants to portray guns as inherently dangerous. The full story on shootings is rarely told in the media spin.

Note that this is one reason why this is not taken seriuosly and there are wise cracks.

The real story will come out from a police report.Right now it appears the woman acted in self defence, but there are a lot of unknowns here.

[The man had been arguing with his 23-year-old daughter over her relationship and said he wanted to kick her out of the house, Jennings said.]

...over her relationship TO WHAT?!

Sorry to keep flogging the decomposed horse on this, but why can't journalists write clear, accurate and logically consistent sentences? This story reads like it was written at 3 AM during a bender.

It depends on the topic.

About three years ago, a FReeper misspelled a word, and the double entendres and inuendo, and word twisting went on for 600+ posts. On the flip side, we're REALLY series about certain topic with hugh consequences.

For instance, one mention of The Swimmer, will get you this:

I've tried that but it's hard to get my toe through the trigger guard.

Thank you for the first good laugh of the evening.

I spend my whole day at work being serious. I'm done being serious for the day.

Glad to hear she won't be facing any charges

I'm hoping the story is as the survivor reported it.

It's our form of group therapy. :)

I hope it doesn't bother you too much, 'cause you're going to see a lot more of it!

Only in a superficial way. :^)

Hemingway and many other drunken authors were literately skilled sober and could still write clearly while drunk. I can't believe the "journalist" who wrote this tripe is on the same level as those great authors.
