Democrats signal oversight of Bush would increase. Probes by Congress may be in the cards

Michigan Democrat Rep. John Conyers Jr.'s Web site features his call for investigations of the U.S. invasion of Iraq and President Bush's authorization of wiretapping without court warrants.

Conyers says either could justify Bush's impeachment or censure.

It is one of numerous demands by frustrated Democrats, out of power in Congress for several years, for investigations of the Bush administration.

But with the growing prospect that they could regain control of at least the House in the November elections, Democratic leaders are signaling that they intend to increase oversight of the White House if they win a majority — and use their subpoena power to put the administration on the griddle.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California has indicated that high energy prices, faulty intelligence used to justify the Iraq war and the National Security Agency's surveillance program would be investigated.

People who are so anxious to see Republican incumbents defeated, better consider that they are giving the Dems a better chance to take ovef Congress in November, and they are all set to thwart President Bush's efforts to protect us from the terrorists.

Despite polls showing rising support for Democrats and scorn for Republicans, analysts have said Democratic hopes for big gains remain remote, because so few seats are in contention.

Conyers represents one of the most crime ridden districts in the country: the east side of Detroit. People there live in barred homes. Drugs are plentiful. The police don't prevent crime, they just do the paperwork after it happens.

I'd love to see this opened up on prime-time TV. We can present the pre-war docs to the public (since the MSM won't) and explain FISA and the evolution of the legal basis for wiretapping.

What I don't understand about Bush is how he allowed his numbers to fall this far. Last summer, I began screaming on this board that he needed a new PR strategy. There were so many things he could do to counter the hostile media. He did next to nothing. Now he's faced with the prospect of losing the House, which was his strongest support. The Senate Republicans are a disgrace. I soured on them when I watched the Bolten hearings.

The only good thing is expect the Democrats to overplay their hand. However, he needs to discredit the media soon and neutralize them to a certain extent, soon.

I don't understand it either.

It seems to me that every since Karen Hughes left, they just couldn't get their PR strategy together. I think President Bush thinks, that if he does things right, eventually people will figure it out, but with the hostile MSM and the Dems, perception is more important than reality.

We are having a great economy, as a result of Bush's taxcuts, and he is not taking credit for it and most people don't even notice it.

The RATS are a very funny lot indeed, really good at counting chickens that don't exist.
They counted their chickens in 2002 too didn't they.
If I am not mistaken Terry McAuliffe "guaranteed" the RATS were going to win the Congress back then too, then promptly got clobbered. Same thing in 2004.

It's good to see the RATS Neanderthals exposing their malignant intentions for all to see right now, so Republicans can be even more determined to come out and clobber the RATS yet again come November.

There were so many things he could have done. For instance, when it was obvious the media was playing the poll game, they could have implied that conservatives/Republicans are no longer cooperating with the polls so they are now rendered useless. The media would have continued to play this game, but it would take a lot of the edge off it.

He could have told monthly heroes of Iraq stories, about the men and women who have fought and died for us. He could have highlighted a family, why is the horrid Cindy Sheehan the most well known mother of a dead soldier.

I just am so fed up with him. He should have established a war room when he realized what the media was doing. Hard,mean folks that would come out hitting at every phony, poll, every allegation. But know, he just sat there.

There were a number of Republicans defeated in primaries and some conservatives are very happy about it, totally ignoring that this put the seat in play for the Dems.
