The monumental deception

Nevada's Sen. Harry Reid calls it "racist."

California's Sen. Boxer raises the issue of "shame."

All this, over a simple amendment to the immigration bill, which would establish English as the official language of this country.

You remember "this country" don't you?

The United States? The United States of America?

Yeah, that's it. The country founded by thoughtful, brave and eloquent men who spoke English and wrote our founding documents – the roadmap for our future and our successes – in the English language.

You can go to Washington and see the original documents. You can read them and know what they outline for the new country they were creating.

Well, you could read them if you could read and speak English. If not, you'd be out of luck.

Then again, maybe not.

If the likes of Reid and Boxer and others in Congress have their way, "this country" will bend over backward to make other languages the equal of English and, in the process, will embody in the law that lawbreaking is OK – no matter what the language!

On top of that, lawbreaking will be rewarded.

How about that as a lesson for "new citizens"?

How about that for a lesson to our children? The law is up for grabs. Whatever floats your boat – go for it.

If Boxer AND Reid are against it, it MUST be really, really good for American.

How can speaking a language be racist? As I understand it, regardless of race, people can speak any language they wish. I know one thing, if you are in France, Spain, Netherlands, etc., and you want to use a language other than the native language you are required to bring your own interpreter. The states in these countries surprisingly use their own language to do business.

This subject is beyond silly.
Every country on earth shares a common wish to unify culture for themselves through an official language...
Without being racist, nativist, xenophobic or any of the childish intimidating names childish politicians manage to conjure up.

That fact alone, for me, is enough to give their opinions and name calling zero importance.
How these clowns became our "leaders" is beyond me...

This subject is beyond silly.

Taking the equal protection clause to its extreme end, this is the nonsense it leads to. We should have to offer all government documents in every language that our citizens speaks.

Who do you think you are addressing in that sing song kindergarten tone of voice? Your disdain of this audience is a startling revelation that you think we are simpletons...and thus your likelyhood of being accepted is most lkely zero.

In plain English, we are against anything other than English being the "lingua franca" of this country. There is no reason or need for justification...it is the official language of the USA.

And we don't need smarmy 'school teachers' to inform anybody about it. So buzz off.

This whole issue about English is nothing more than a smoke screen to make it appear that our useless representatives are actually doing something useful. While everyone's attention is on this relatively insignificant issue and who wins American Idol, the public's 11 second attention span is gradually being exceeded. And when the public wakes up anew, illegals will have Social Security benefits, a guaranteed path to citizenship and likley several more rights or entitlements that citizens don't even have. It's beneath contempt.

is it racist for France to make people speak French?
is it racist for Spain to have Spanish as a national language?
is it racist for the Portugese to speak, well, portugese?
if it racist for Mexico to speak Spanish?

seeme like it's only racist when we do it, but when everybody else does it, then it's fine.

I thought that Reid's second act was more interesting than the first. In the first act, he says that 2/3 of the Senators (who voted for the bill) are racists.

Then when Libbly Dole states that Reid ought to apologize, he sends out his spokeswoman to attack Libby Dole for conspiring with Karl Rove.

Aside from being completely unrepentent, that has got to be there most assinine response I could have imagined.

The most tragic and disheartening thing about this "immigration" business, this "migration" from south of the border, is that those who would preserve America are so stupid and self deluding as to think that "rational argument" will make some difference, that words will save the day, that the Pelosis, Boxers, Reids, Kennedys, and all those like them will somehow come around to an American point of view.

Never happen in a million years. Our Fathers and Grandfathers knew that trying to "reason" with Imperial Japan and with Hitler's Gangsters was not only futile but wasted time vitally needed for victory.

Ironically, in one sense this country has a vested interest in having Latin American immigrants learn as little interest as possible -- because it will help ensure that they remain a part of an enduring underclass for far longer than previous generations of immigrants did.

Historically, immigrants to the U.S. followed a fairly consistent path up the socio-economic ladder -- working menial jobs so their kids could enjoy a higher standard of living. With bilingual education and the refusal on the part of many Latin American immigrants to assimilate, we have a bizarre scenario in which these immigrants work menial jobs and raise kids who will be largely incapable of doing much more than working those same menial jobs.

I've thought about that issue along the same lines that you state and I agree with your take on it. Of course, that isn't the only bizarre element of this multi-decade long Mariel boatlift.

Trying to make it look like they're doing something, diverting attention from more serious issues and covering their impotence in being able to make any sort of a decision; let's be honest, the Senate has worked itself to a standstill and has turned into an imbecilic debating club. The Caligula's horse would feel at home there.

The company I work for is a small immigration firm in Florida. Everyone here except for me and one other girl speak Spanish on a regular, daily basis - not only to clients but to each other - all day long. It ticks me off to no end that I go to work in America and I feel as if I am working south of the border every day. When I made a complaint about it, I was told it might be a good idea for me to take Spanish classes. I said "why should I take spanish classes to work in America?" They said because everyone should know how to speak a different language.

I asked them if klingon counted as a second language. They didn't get it.

Now, now, let's give the lefties a break. They're confused because they talk out of their arses. They believe the middle finger and a brain fart is all the language anyone needs.

"How these clowns became our "leaders" is beyond me ... " Publius6961

These ________ (fill in epithetic name) keep getting elected because they have a constituency so dumbed down by the public school system these congressional representatives have created for that exact purpose. Add to that the fact that these ________ regularly demagogue (and their constituencies cannot fathom the truth) and lie and play the race card, and you see why these _________ are still filthying up OUR Congress.
