WASHINGTON, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- As the U.S. Senate, with the backing of President Bush, rushes to complete work on a bill that grants amnesty to tens of millions of illegal aliens and opens the doors to millions more "guest workers," a new coalition of African American leaders is calling the proposal a "disaster for all Americans that will hit black citizens the hardest." The newly formed coalition of business, academic and community leaders, known as Choose Black America, will be holding their inaugural press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, May 23, to express the concerns of the vast majority of American blacks who believe that amnesty for illegal aliens would be devastating to their Choose Black America argues that black Americans have already been severely damaged by decades of uncontrolled illegal immigration and stand to lose even more if 12 million, or more, illegal aliens are granted amnesty. The coalition also formed in response to the failure of black elected officials to represent the interests of African Americans.
"Mass illegal immigration has been a major impediment to black advancement in this country over the past 25 years," declared Dr. Frank Morris Sr., chairman of Choose Black America "All Americans are harmed by rampant illegal immigration, but it is blacks, in particular, who have lost economic opportunities, watched their kids' schools flood with non-English speaking students, and felt the direct impact in countless ways. Our government has failed us, our elected officials have failed us, and now they are prepared to compound the damage with an amnesty and guest worker program that will set black Americans back a hundred years."
Choose Black America is calling on the Senate to enact an immigration enforcement bill that does not include amnesty for those here illegally and which does not flood the American labor market with guest workers who in reality will become permanent residents of this country. The group also seeks to make it clear that black members of Congress who are backing amnesty for illegal aliens do not represent the views and interests of their constituents back home.
"Black politicians in this country are quick to point out that African Americans -- especially young black men -- are far more likely to be unemployed, to live in poverty, lack access to basic health care, and to attend dysfunctional schools than the rest of the population," Morris observed. "The politicians use these realities to demand new government programs paid for with money the government is borrowing, when the most effective black empowerment program would be enforcement of our immigration laws. A comprehensive strategy to enforce our nation's immigration laws would do more to improve conditions for American blacks than all the anti-poverty programs Washington can dream up.
"An illegal alien amnesty would not only reward tens of millions of lawbreakers, but would result in tens of millions, perhaps even a hundred million, new mostly low-wage workers and their families entering this country over the next 20 years," said Morris. "The first to lose from such a program would be African Americans, but, ultimately, all Americans who work for a living would suffer a devastating blow."
Choose Black America will hold a news conference at the National Press Club's Holeman Lounge on Tuesday, May 23 at 12:00 pm.

The Senate program, it is said (I will not give the source because I'm not sure that I am quoting him correctly, since I heard him say it on the radio and cannot check the reference) will ultimate result in something like 100 million new immigrants, as those given amnesty will have the right to bring in their families, a number equal to one third of the U.S. population today. My memory may be falty, but I know that the estimate is far more than 10 million.
In Hilton Head a couple years back, black leadership (mostly local ministers) were begging the local guv and state guv to help enforce immigration laws. The hospitality industry had heretofore been a reliable entry-level job source, but the hotels and restaurants found illegal labor cheaper and more submissive.

Black America is concerned about Open Borders and Illegal Immigration for the same reason other Americans are concerned. This is their country. They do not want it drowned in a sea of illegal immigrants. They want the laws enforced. They do not want social security to collapse under the weight of millions of new entitled. They do not want the economy and the government to implode under the weight of millions of illegals. They want to leave a healthy nation to their children. They know that there is a limit to the number of immigrants that the United States can absorb. Etc. Et al.
Remember the flap about a year ago when Vicente Fox said Mexicans are doing the jobs that "even the blacks" won't do...? That was a LOL moment.
Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP and the Black Caucus probably want immediate Citizenship for illegals so that they can get the illegals' votes. They do not care about black people.

I've been waiting for this moment for months. This is perfect for Reps and complete disaster for Dims. If Reps secure, say, 25% of the black vote in national elections, just 25%, no one reading this message will see a Dim President again in his or her lifetime. And the DNC knows this well. Watch the Dim Establishment go after this new group with all the hate, distortions, excesses and more that you have ever seen. It will look, by comparison, like they were treating Steele in MD with kid gloves.
I've heard multiple black callers into a San Antonio talk show sounding like Hannity on illegal immigration. The tide is turning in black America, and its rising from the bottom up. Which means the Dim Establishment had better head this off at the pass ASAP, or they're going to get tsunami-ed.

It would seem like this an opportunity for the Reps to get their collective heads out of their collective a***s and pass a strong law and use its passage as foot in the door with middle class and up Blacks. But then that would take brains, planning and guts something the Reps seem to have in short supply.

You're right. That's why the aforementioned race-baiting, self-appointed black leaders (IMO) have said very little. Also they undoubtedly have been pondering what tack to take. Black caucus has commented somewhat critically.
There are a few on this forum, but far from all.
Some estimates put the figures at around twenty percent of the population.
Plus, if Americans are going to be split up into people groups, African, Asia, and Latin American descent Americans TEND to have more conservative values than MANY (not all or necessarily a majority) European Americans. Seems that the vast majority of evironmentalists, hippies, and communists in the United States are of European descent.
The truth is, if the Mexican immigrants were certain to vote Republican (not RINO), I would personally place a welcome mat on the Rio Grande.

I've found them. The ones that can are moving into generally white neighborhoods near me because they are fed up with the Mexican gangs. They are welcome here. These Black Americans are just like everybody else around here. We rarely meet our neighbors because everybody works all day long.
Maybe they avoid me because I dress like a slob sometimes for my engineering job. I will not rip another good shirt or pair of pants while working on expensive aerospace things.

You're right that the Reps don't have anything to fear from Asians and Latins in the States because, I agree, so many have conservative values. Plus so many are middle class. The problem for Reps has been black America - in terms of raw percentages of vote breakdowns. Again, if Reps gain just 25% of the black vote, we will never see a Dim president again. And the DNC knows it.
And think of their dilemma. The DNC has to turn out - has to - 90% of voting blacks to the Dim side EVERY election for perpetuity. No party can do this, and indeed the Dims have been getting away with murder with black America for decades longer than anyone could have expected. The immigration issue is going to run out their string, in six months or less.
Could it be that amnesty for illegals is the issue that finally separates black Americans from their ultra-leftist leadership? Could it be that American conservatives can finally make a common cause with poorer blacks who have just been handing liberals their votes over the years, and get nothing to show for it?
The next decade will be interesting to watch...
