Male wearing dress denied entrance to prom

GARY, Ind. A male high school student was barred from his prom at Gary's West Side High School because he wanted to wear a dress to the event.

Eighteen-year-old Kevin Logan says he is a homosexual who is exploring his sexual identity. He has dressed as a female while attending classes this year.

Logan arrived last Friday for the prom wearing a fuchsia, slinky prom dress and heels but was not allowed inside.

School officials say its school policy that males can't wear dresses. They refunded the 85-dollars he paid for a prom ticket.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana says Logan's First Amendment Rights were violated.

Logan's mother, Donnetta, said she was not surprised by what she called the ignorance of school administrators.

Article the third [Amendment I]

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Does this fall under re-DRESS of grievances?

But I am not surprised of the ignorance of some parents.

Good grief. No wonder the boy is so confused.

Good, although I would have loved to have seen the torment he would have gone through if he would have come to the prom wearing a dress. Gary West Side isn't the calmest of high schools.

Why is this kid dressing in woman's clothes at school? They let him get away with this all year and then are surprised when he shows up at prom in a dress? Yeah big shocker!! I could have seen this coming a mile away!

a homosexual who is exploring his sexual identity

What about other sexual orientations - like exhibitionists for example?

The kid has some issues but I am not sure the school should dictate what people wear to the prom.

What, no picture? Let's see, guys wear t-shirts and jeans and girls wear t-shirts and jeans. Unless he wore inch long hot pink fake nails then not many would see the difference.

How I long for the good old days when young men would wear tasteful attire to the prom.

I wore a dress, as a joke, to the football homecoming when I was in 10th grade. It was sort of a tradition, a thumbing of collective noses at authority. (Hey, I was a kid.) Anyhow, part of the tradition was a homecoming drag-queen and -king competition. I won queen and the girl that won king ended up my girlfriend for the three weeks following the dance (three weeks was a long time then- hey I was a kid).

Sorry, no pictures.

Well DUH!!!! Everyone know that! The right for a male to wear a prom dress comes before the right to abortion and after ridding war memorials of crosses.

You know what the most surprising thing about this story is?

It didn't happen in Massachusetts.

What if I wanted to bring a barnyard animal to the prom as a date. Would the ACLU claim my first amendment rights were violated as well because the school wouldn't allow it.
Probably.

Of course, the activists always tell Conservatives: "Stay out of our bedroom!"

And then they wear a dress to the prom.
