It's important to remember that the PM sits in Parliament. There's a daily Question Period, where the PM and other Cabinet Members are subjected to questions from Opposition MPs. "Reporters" in press conferences often just repeat these questions in order to get their face into the story. The PM is accountable to the people through Parliament -- not through the Parliamentary press gallery.
