Border Fight Divides G.O.P.
The New York Times ^ | May 26, 2006 | Jim Rutenberg

WASHINGTON, May 25 — The negotiations between the White House and Congress that will follow the Senate's passage on Thursday of an immigration bill could decide not just how the nation confronts illegal immigration but also what strain of conservatism the Republican Party carries into the midterm elections and beyond.

Will it be the compassionate brand Mr. Bush considers crucial to the party's future, in this case by signaling support for a provision in the Senate bill that would give most illegal immigrants an opportunity to become legal? Or will it be the more doctrinaire variety embraced by much of Mr. Bush's party in the House, one that shuns anything that smacks of amnesty for illegal immigrants and seeks to criminalize them further?

This day should bring a multitude of national articles speculating on the House action--and the likely labeling in many more articles of "chilly" relations between Hastert and the White House.

You mean like the fraudulent ABC "News" story that Hasert is under investigation by the Dept of Justice over Abrahamoff. The stories ABC ran AFTER the DOJ told them there was no such investigation?

Actually, I was referring to a paragraph in the article, namely:
"Some well-known Republicans came out in support of a comprehensive plan, and argued that progress was possible. But it does not help the prospects for a deal that relations between the administration and Republican leaders on Capitol Hill are especially chilly at the moment because of the showdown about whether the Justice Department overstepped constitutional bounds over the weekend by raiding the office of a member of Congress."

It is only 4 am. First post that I read has already worn me out.

It is like a non stop full moon.

This bickering has got to stop if we are going to survive as a country.

It looks more and more like there'll be a mexican standoff between the house pubbies and the senate rats and rinos. This abomination from the senate deserves to die a quick death in conference.

"Speculating"?

I don't thinks so. We were sold down the river by those in the senate and the course of action demands that they be recalled from their "power trips." They voted in a way that pooped on US citizens and their wishes. Of course, many of them will say that they can't be voted out of office just like hastert says it is unconstitutional to have their offices searched. Next up, I imagine they will vote lifetime terms for themselves--and really, what would prevent it?

You are right but instead of having a "comprehensive" plan to deal with them, lets pick them off one at a time. Lets start with illegal immigration. And by the way, aren't you in the least upset that the senate is refusing to listen to their constituents. I realize that we do not live in a democracy but a representative republic. Our goverment is supposed to represent, we the people, not special interest groups or people in this country illegally. It is really frightening to me that the senate has basically slammed the door on the american people and are doing whatever they damn well please. Where is the representation??? Right now illegal immigration is on the table, whats next? I perceive their attitude to be that of a big one finger salute and they think we are just gonna take.

Illegal aliens bring Americans infectious hepatitis,
incurable tuberculosis, typhoid, cholera, mumps,
Chagas disease, leprosy, incurable Morgellons disease, and Dengue fever.

Illegal aliens do not pay taxes.
40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10 million people) are
working for cash and not paying taxes.

Illegal aliens rape and murder Americans.
95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

Illegal aliens will inherit and bankrupt America.
Over 2/3's of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien
Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare

Illegal aliens, and traitorous RINOS and Rats in the US Senate have picked the future POTUS

What? Only people who do not understand how this republic works think this way! From day one in this country there has been bickering about everything we do. Thanks heaven's for it, we need MORE of it to weed out the namby-pamby's.

btw, stop the bickering opposed to what? Pushing thru some lameass, meaningless legislation, that allows lawbreakers to keep breaking laws??

The same could be said for Memphis, Tenn., where 95% of the population is home grown.

IMO, Border Fight Divides G.O.P. is just more wishful thinking by the extreme left NYT. All the border battle has done is give the RINOs a brighter light in which to reveal themselves for all to see.

You are very right. The Left's politics of "divide and conquer" appear to be working as well as they always have.

why?....why would they be divided?
isn't 90+% of their voters in favor of real immigrant reform?

gee golly...if they are "Representatives" for the reps...how...how can they be divided??

unless they are representing someone else??
