What the Base Thinks [about illegal immigration]
Powerline ^ | May 25, 2006 | John Hinderaker

Posted on 05/26/2006 8:08:46 AM PDT by Tirian

The Bush administration and Republican Senators have badly misjudged both the attitudes of most Republicans (and, of course, most Americans) toward illegal immigration, and the intensity of those views. While we have opposed the Senate plan, we have been pretty mild-mannered about it. So I'm turning the microphone over to my friend Bob Cunningham. No one I know of argues immigration-related issues more cogently. Equally important, no one I know of conveys the white-hot anger and sense of betrayal that millions of Americans feel about this issue more effectively.

We know that this site is widely read in the White House and in Congress. To all Republicans in Washington: please, please read what follows with care, and understand that Bob speaks for most Americans and the overwhelming majority of Republicans:

Here's what they're missing, and it is the principal reason, in my opinion, WHY the anti-ILLEGAL forces are so upset -- and so powerful.

It has to do with the bad faith, calculated deceit, Orwellian propaganda, dishonest sophistry, misdirection, arrogance, presumption, indifference to, and, indeed, contempt for the beliefs of huge numbers of ordinary Americans -- including LEGAL immigrants and Hispanic natives! --- on the part of political/media elites.

Let's recognize that the political process has --- democratically --- designated the illegals AS illegal. Why? Because we, as a nation, decided that their presence -- NOT themselves per se (as the false attribution of racism would have it) --- but their presence in such numbers for such purposes (the phony Jobs Americans Won't Do/Jobs Americans Are Not Doing) is undesirable. There are perfectly reasonable grounds for that judgment. When did we vote for the Mexification of America? ANS.: NEVER....Indeed, going back to the 1965 immigration "reforms", assurances were REPEATEDLY given (Kennedy) that such reforms would NOT lead to an influx or demographic change. And guess what? The burden of proof is NOT on the nation to justify this stance.

Period. Full stop. End of discussion.

Since these elites don't like that decision now they want us to accept a fait accompli..and more! They feel perfectly justified in collaborating in the subversion of our democratically enacted immigration regime --- with crass, narrow, economic special interests and with others having perhaps more sinister designs. Their objectives --- open borders, a free flow of cheap labor --- are plain now for all to see. Some no longer even bother to pretend otherwise.

Given that, there is NO REASON to believe ANY of their promises --- the "wall," enforcement of "tough" conditions for a "path to legalization/citizenship" or limits in a "tough and smart" "temporary" "guest workers" indentured servant-helot program. We also know that the very underlying rationale itself for "temporary" "guest workers" (the economically illiterate JAWD/JAAND) is in DIRECT CONTRADICTION to ANY arbitrary "limits"....Indeed, the very claim itself that deportation is "impossible" renders the enforcement promises self-refuting! We should all ignore the false promises and intentional non-feasance in the past?...and do I even have to mention the Simpson-Mazzoli fraud? "This time it's different"?....we REALLY mean it now?....

The ultimate retort of the immigration celebrationists --- let us call it the "immigrants are good people" argument --- is totally beside the point. It is an assertion that no one would disagree with, but it is also an argument that has NO internal LIMITING PRINCIPLE. There is, on its own terms, no non-arbitrary basis for excluding ANY ONE of the 6 billion non-Americans. Other than criminal disqualification, most of them, are, indeed "good people"....so what?

Well, we already decided the question of numbers and limits...and the political/media elites, in conjunction with the scofflaw employers, do NOT have standing to subvert the democratic decision made, upon deliberation, several times in reliance on what we now can see were plainly false promises.

Never again.

Sorry to see you go.. We Need a few low keyed individuals to level the playing field.. But having All low keyed individuals would be SOooo boring.. and O.K. NICE..

Politics; if its anything, is NOT nice.. Free Republic needs its Pomeranians and its Pit Bulls too.. Poodles, Dobies, Dachshunds, and SPITZ.. and Persians, Maine Coon Cats, Siamese, and Tabbys too..

If you be a Mouse.. slowly backing away preparing to RUN.... might be the best plan.. a very intelligent decision.

Lugar is lost. He's been in the beltway too long absorbing the liberal dogma and believing it. Time to dump him. Whatever asset his seniority was, is lost in the deterioration of his principles. Say good-night, Dick!

I understand your point, but right now I may just not vote at all. If there is no difference between a Dem Senate and Republican Senate why should I vote?

Oh, but there IS a difference -- at least in most states. In Colorado, we've got a Republican senator, Allard, who is conservative in every way, and we've got a Democrat senator, Salazar, who is liberal in every way. I have no problem telling the difference between the two, and thank God for Allard.

In your state there might not be such a clear distinction, but if you stay at home and thereby let the Democrats take over the Senate, you've effectively taken away what little power Allard and others like him have. Imagine, just for starters, all Senate committees in the hands of Democrats.

Don't punish the courageous conservatives in the Senate by taking away their majority. Fight RINOs in the primaries, send your money to conservatives only, and fight Democrats (the real enemy) at every turn.

It's far worse than even this guy writes.

The border issue certainly helped me decide how bad the corruption is in this country because the propositions flying around the whitehouse and senate defy logic. Yes, the underlying dynamic finally crystallized for me on this single issue. The thought that anyone with an ounce of logic would support propositions that have allowed and will continue to allow our country to be overrun with indigents was incomprehensible? For a while I and many others thought the president and certain senators (dems and pubbies):

1) had a heart for illegal immigrants- WRONG! or
2) were reaching out to illegals and trying to build their respective voting constituencies for the future- MOSTLY WRONG!

The overarching truth is, in their worldview, it's a world of business and sovereign nations only serve to restrict business operations and ultimately, profits. Who needs borders? Free trade, cheap labor, and open borders for all! Yep, they're all one world government whores sold out to their big business constituents. That's the only explanation that is consistent with their actions over the last 25 years. In truth, they've all sold us down the river for big business and a one world government which will benefit.... you guessed it.... big business.

If you get too many Pit Bulls, the decent doggies can only hold out so long before they get eaten alive.

I've been here over five years, hoser. I LOVE to fight, and I ain't afraid of nobody..........you, of all people should know that.

Perhaps its time to leave.........I haven't decided. I've been close before, but FR has never been this downright evil before either. We're not talking spirited political discussion.......we're talking ugly.

I've heard that having rabies is a nasty way to die..........and maybe it's best if I go before then.

I dedicated hours last week to making phone calls to Senators' offices. I told everyone of the 'Amnesty' Republicans' staff members that if they do not convey to their bosses the intensity of this matter and the need to vote NO on the Hagel Martinez bill, they should right now be getting out their resumes and updating them because they will no longer have their Senator -----'s Staff Aid job in 2007.

I sure hope they are powerful enough to elect a decent number of Constitution Party members to office.

Evil happens when good men do nothing.

True enough ... but it also happens when good me are sufficiently distracted by other matters i.e., 1965-Viet Nam War buildup. If we had had the Internet in 1965, that "reform" to import/download Democrat voters would have never happened.

Senate immigration bill ~ Senator Dodd's .Amdt.4089 contains the following language:

(b) CONSULTATION REQUIREMENT.--Consultations between United States and Mexican authorities at the federal, state, and local levels concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the United States-Mexico border shall be undertaken prior to commencing any new construction, in order to solicit the views of affected communities, lessen tensions and foster greater understanding and stronger cooperation on this and other important issues of mutual concern.

How these tyrants in their guise of US Senators can even consider giving away our sacred sovereignty, liberty and national treasure, let alone be proud of it, is beyond me.

They have forsaken their oaths of office and have turned against America by sticking their forks in her heart, hoping to yank it out and devour it, to satiate their satanic desire for power and eminence.

Some people are worried that amnesty will give illegal aliens the same rights that American citizens have. In reality, it will give the illegals more rights than the average American citizen.

Since most of the illegals are Mexican, that makes them a minority. Under affirmative action, combined with amnesty, they would have preferences in jobs and other benefits.

Those who set up their own businesses would be entitled to preferences in getting government contracts. Their children would be able to get into college ahead of the children of American citizens with better academic qualifications.
>snip<
Under the supposedly "tough" immigration bill in the U.S. Senate, illegals don't have to pay all the back taxes they owe. An American citizen gets no such break from the government and can end up in federal prison, like Al Capone.

If an American citizen gets stopped by the police for a traffic violation and the cops discover that he is wanted for some other violation of the law, they can arrest him for whatever else he has done.

But if an illegal alien gets stopped for going through a red light and the police discovers that he is in the country illegally, in many communities the cop is forbidden to arrest him for that -- or even to report him to the feds.

If an American citizen forges a Social Security card in order to get a job,he can be arrested. Under a provision recently passed by the Senate, illegal aliens who forged Social Security cards not only get a pass, they get to collect Social Security benefits.

Immigration Bill Is Worse Than You Think
by Sen. Jeff Sessions
Posted May 25, 2006

Editor’s Note: Sen. Jeff Sessions (R.-Ala.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, offered a devastating analysis on the Senate immigration bill in a speech delivered on the Senate floor on Tuesday, May 23. Sessions pointed to shocking elements of the bill that were hidden deep in its text.

These include, for example, that the employers of illegal aliens would be given an amnesty for cheating on their taxes, and that under the terms of the law the government would for all practical purposes have to take an illegal alien’s word for it that he has been in the country illegally long enough to qualify for an amnesty.

Sessions also pointed to some of the tremendous hidden costs of the bill, including the $500 billion in additional welfare payments it will cost American taxpayers in the period 10 to 20 years after its passage.

Senators who vote for the bill today cannot credibly claim later they were unaware of the elements and consequences that Sen. Session’s outlined in this speech.

[Sen. Jeff Sessions]:
I am going to take some time tonight to inform my colleagues about some of the problems with the legislation before us. It is worse than you think, colleagues.

The legislation has an incredible number of problems with it. Some, as I will point out tonight, can only be considered deliberate. Whereas on the one hand it has nice words with good sounding phrases in it to do good things, on the second hand it completely eviscerates that, oftentimes in a way that only the most careful reading by a good lawyer would discover.

So I feel like I have to fulfill my duty. I was on the Judiciary Committee. We went into this. We tried to monitor it and study it and actually read this 614-page bill, and I have a responsibility and I am going to fulfill my responsibility.

President Bush and Congress would do better to start with securing the border and strengthening enforcement of existing immigration laws. They should also consider removing all privileges which the illegals and their benefactors now enjoy, which not only make them immune to the laws and restrictions which citizens must obey, but allows them special entitlements.

Illegal's children should not be automatically made citizens, nor should they be allowed to claim any of their families, especially those who are not here as dependents. They should not be allowed to bring any of their family with them. They should not have access to any benefits.  Employers should be punished for breaking the law.

[ but FR has never been this downright evil before either. ]

EVIL?.. The current outrage about illegal and legal Insurgents is very very healthy... the LACK of outrage would be EVIL.. thats right EVIL.. Sure some need to get comfortable with being outraged so that its not just all talk.. (i.e. b!tchin)... But thats how massive moral outrage is.. uncomfortable.. The republican party has been slowly turning leftist for a long time.. Some it seems just made the connection to reality.. After hopeing against hope for best intentions they have learned the republican party has been following the democrats leftward.. FOLLOWING!!, like appeasers and dupes..

And they are not very happy with reality.. so they used/use George Bush as the figurehead for the outrage.. Which, by the way, he is.. He didnt do it alone.. by a long shot.. he had enormous help... But he is a pretty good poster boy for turncoat of the decade.. John Mclaim is a good second but both of them are not stupid.. Thet know exactly what they are doing.. Any Fan of either of them is in massive denial.. or is in fact EVIL ALSO...

Here is where the immigration issue comes into sync with another major economic issue that too many conservatives have been ignoring – the dangerous trends in international trade. In both cases, rogue corporations are pitting foreigners against Americans. Whether they bring foreign workers here, or send jobs to foreign workers overseas, these self-seeking firms are in alliance with foreign interests against American-based firms and their citizen-employees. Moving factories out of the United States is even more damaging to American society than hiring illegals, as the resulting enterprises are put completely out of reach.

The loss of millions of skilled industrial jobs, as well as managerial and technical positions, due to the de-industrialization of the American economy, sets the country up for the invasion by unskilled foreign migrants. As Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donohue testified to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship on May 26, 2005, "of the top 10 largest job growth occupations between 2002 and 2012, all but two require less than a bachelor’s degree. At the same time, six of the top 10 growth occupations require only short-term on-the-job training. Some of these top 10 occupations that only require short-term on the-job training include: retail salespersons, nursing aides, janitors and cleaners, waiters and waitresses, and combined food preparation and serving workers."

"American Economic Alert |

Immigration and Outsourcing: How to Pit Cheap Labor Against the American Middle Class
Wednesday, May 24, 2006 By William R. Hawkins

>snip<

The skill level of the American labor force is being dumbed down by foreign outsourcing and trade deficits. In addition, we allow less educated illegal aliens to enter the country and compete for the low-level jobs that are all an economy hemmed in by overseas rivals can create. And when jobs skills are dumbed down, pay and living standards are also brought down. We are in fact importing poverty. "

>snip<

So they (the senate) think that we can't see what is going on. Probably the real truth is that they are such elitist that they don't see it at all. Because of their connections all of their children get excellent jobs according to their ivy league school diplomas. The only illegal immigrants that they come in contact with are those who do the work about their estates. These speak relatively understandable English or don't have to speak at all to their owner err I mean boss because they never speak directly to them. They are well behaved. While the rest of us 'knuckle draggers' get to see every day our beautiful small American towns being devoured by these invaders who bring with them crime, destruction of real estate value because of over crowding where ever they can. And because they have the comfort now of equal numbers they feel no reason to give the natives any respect. Why should they? They are immune to our laws.

The first job of the federal government is to protect our borders.

U.S.-based producers have paid a heavy price for Washington's failure to combat foreign dumping, export subsidies and intellectual property theft. All of these tactics give foreign producers advantages in the U.S. market that have nothing to do with economic efficiency. Sadly, Washington seems determined to keep U.S. trade policy on its recent track, and without fundamental change, domestic industry's decline will be pushed closer to the point of no return.

The very first sentence, the basis of this article is wrong. They know how we feel, they just don't care. They have plans and we the lowly citizens are not gonna get in their way.

Bingo!

The Globalist Commercial Free Traders are going to change this country into just another nation state in the greater Global Community .

This basically 50/50 split in this country is what they have been working and waiting for.

This country, is split between those who want it to be what the founders intended and those who want a nanny state to supply all their needs.

He going to flood with new voters who could care less about America or being an American . He knows they will join with the useful idiot nanny voters to make sure the true conservatives cannot undo, at any future elections what him and his Globalist friends now and before him have done.

Their goal and his has been to bide their time and wait for an opportunity to get the roadblock which is the United States and it's Constitution out of the way.

Instead of changing the Constitution they changed the idea of what it means to be an American in enough of the people and they are fixing to import the rest.

We have been watching the wrong battlefield.
