What the Base Thinks [about illegal immigration]
Powerline ^ | May 25, 2006 | John Hinderaker

Posted on 05/26/2006 8:08:46 AM PDT by Tirian

The Bush administration and Republican Senators have badly misjudged both the attitudes of most Republicans (and, of course, most Americans) toward illegal immigration, and the intensity of those views. While we have opposed the Senate plan, we have been pretty mild-mannered about it. So I'm turning the microphone over to my friend Bob Cunningham. No one I know of argues immigration-related issues more cogently. Equally important, no one I know of conveys the white-hot anger and sense of betrayal that millions of Americans feel about this issue more effectively.

We know that this site is widely read in the White House and in Congress. To all Republicans in Washington: please, please read what follows with care, and understand that Bob speaks for most Americans and the overwhelming majority of Republicans:

Here's what they're missing, and it is the principal reason, in my opinion, WHY the anti-ILLEGAL forces are so upset -- and so powerful.

It has to do with the bad faith, calculated deceit, Orwellian propaganda, dishonest sophistry, misdirection, arrogance, presumption, indifference to, and, indeed, contempt for the beliefs of huge numbers of ordinary Americans -- including LEGAL immigrants and Hispanic natives! --- on the part of political/media elites.

Let's recognize that the political process has --- democratically --- designated the illegals AS illegal. Why? Because we, as a nation, decided that their presence -- NOT themselves per se (as the false attribution of racism would have it) --- but their presence in such numbers for such purposes (the phony Jobs Americans Won't Do/Jobs Americans Are Not Doing) is undesirable. There are perfectly reasonable grounds for that judgment. When did we vote for the Mexification of America? ANS.: NEVER....Indeed, going back to the 1965 immigration "reforms", assurances were REPEATEDLY given (Kennedy) that such reforms would NOT lead to an influx or demographic change. And guess what? The burden of proof is NOT on the nation to justify this stance.

Period. Full stop. End of discussion.

Since these elites don't like that decision now they want us to accept a fait accompli..and more! They feel perfectly justified in collaborating in the subversion of our democratically enacted immigration regime --- with crass, narrow, economic special interests and with others having perhaps more sinister designs. Their objectives --- open borders, a free flow of cheap labor --- are plain now for all to see. Some no longer even bother to pretend otherwise.

Given that, there is NO REASON to believe ANY of their promises --- the "wall," enforcement of "tough" conditions for a "path to legalization/citizenship" or limits in a "tough and smart" "temporary" "guest workers" indentured servant-helot program. We also know that the very underlying rationale itself for "temporary" "guest workers" (the economically illiterate JAWD/JAAND) is in DIRECT CONTRADICTION to ANY arbitrary "limits"....Indeed, the very claim itself that deportation is "impossible" renders the enforcement promises self-refuting! We should all ignore the false promises and intentional non-feasance in the past?...and do I even have to mention the Simpson-Mazzoli fraud? "This time it's different"?....we REALLY mean it now?....

The ultimate retort of the immigration celebrationists --- let us call it the "immigrants are good people" argument --- is totally beside the point. It is an assertion that no one would disagree with, but it is also an argument that has NO internal LIMITING PRINCIPLE. There is, on its own terms, no non-arbitrary basis for excluding ANY ONE of the 6 billion non-Americans. Other than criminal disqualification, most of them, are, indeed "good people"....so what?

Well, we already decided the question of numbers and limits...and the political/media elites, in conjunction with the scofflaw employers, do NOT have standing to subvert the democratic decision made, upon deliberation, several times in reliance on what we now can see were plainly false promises.

Never again.

Maybe it's time for all true patriots to read Vince Flynn's first book entitled: "Term Limits". Better yet, perhaps we should send free copies to all congressional supporters of amnesty for illegal aliens and the rest of the garbage contained in the Senate immigration legislation.

I have tried to give the president the benefit of the doubt on this issue, but I must agree that the final version of this bill is terrible, and I'm disappointed.

I think the glee of Ted Kennedy and McLame praising the swimmer drove me over the line finally!!

[ it is the intense anger and hatred of the President exhibited by a minority on this forum claiming to be the 'base' but either being extreme rightists who never supported this President in the first place, or DU trolls. ]

TRUE some local RINOS are starting to act tough like Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder in Stir Crazy.. buts it an act.. They are Dubyas base but not the republican party base..

The republican party base is for LESS GIVERNMENT... not More.. Dubya is for MORE..

I'm pretty close to leaving this forum because the intelligent, rational, thoughtful conservative posters are getting fewer and farther between as it is taken over more and more by disrespectful pseudocons who wouldn't recognize a decent person if they stood face to face with them.

And I'm not alone. I'm one of the only ones left still in the battle because others have determined that its not worth it to get bloodied every day by foul-mouthed thugs with the maturity level of 13 year olds.

I'm not sure that even radicals like you should be happy with what's happening to this forum. Intelligent discourse and respectful disagreement is almost a thing of the past.

I know that doesn't address your post to me, but I wanted to get that out there.....

Heres the difference........Legal immigrants cannot be percieved as a class of victims. The victim/racist/oppressed mentality is being manufactured by a subvesive movement within our government who believes they can better represent victims rather than representing self starters.

Self starters have too much independence and place too much thought into voting for politicians who make a real difference.

I am with you. The 3rd party is a definitive option. The seats in congress are ripe for the picking.........
Next hurdle....campaign finance (incumbant protection act).
Have to get the money somehow, within the law.

Perhaps you should take the weekend off, visit some Memorial services being held, and have a chance to talk to real Americans face-to-face.

I think you'll find that opinions will be similar to those experienced by Sen Hutchinson (R-TX) who stated that she's rec'd 1,700 calls against the Senate bill vs 12 in favor.

When you finally realize that 70%+ of Americans are against amnesty, and that illegal immigration is now the #1 issue facing the country, then you might be ready to return.

Looking forward to your posts on Tuesday. I trust no one opposed to illegal immigration will hold a grudge for your former position.

This 'vote roll' is just calculated political bull$shit. If this 'elite' group of Senators ALL had their way, by virtue of being free from "up for re-election", they would have ALL voted for the bill, period. The "100" are disgusting examples of Americans and should ALL be turned out.

Thats pretty much what we're ALL doing.. We just have different ways of doing it.. FR is a website about preserveing or even regaining a Free Republic.. Those noticeing America turning nto a FREE DEMOCRACY get un-nerved.. You are no goody two shoes but then you are no rough and tumble personality either.. (as per our convo a few days ago).. some are..

Not only that but some are even as hard headed as I am requiring a 2 x 4 to the head to get through.. mere logical discourse/(cute)semantics won't work.. I like those types, because when you finally DO GET thru, its relatively permanent.. Those types don't change their views every Tuesday.. like some do..

Big difference between those that talk a good game and those that actually play it.. FR is blessed with many that actually play it.. FR is the BIG TIME.. ALL other websites are merely target practice.. You might make a note.. because its true..

I cannot believe our senator Bennett voted for this idiotic bill, but he did. I will let him know that he is toast if he ever runs again as far as my vote is concerned. I'm sure he will tremble in fear.

Those traitors to the Republic lead by Frist, Mc Cain, Specter, Bennett, Brownback, Domenici, DeWine, Graham, Gregg, Chafee, Craig, Lugar, Coleman, Hagel, Harkin, McConnel, Snow, Smith, Menendez, Murkowski, Stevens, Voinovich and Warner all have a big red mark against their names indicating sheer cowardice and stupidity for the next time they dare to run in a Primary against a real conservative.

It's called

AMNESTY

The Rats and Rinos who voted for this disastrous law may call it anything they want, but it's pure amnesty and they have sold out the nation's rule of law.

Vote for those that vote the way you wish or vote out those you dislike in primaries, but don't fail to vote. That gives the RATs (and we know how they voted) the edge.

I've got a solution!

Let's hire and train illegals to deport illegals. That way there wont be a language barrier.

What you seem to have missed is that I, too am strongly opposed to illegal immigration, so your post to me makes no sense.

I'm talking about civility, and I'm talking about respect for our Commander in Chief in time of war.

I'm talking about non-stop, nasty, profane, and ugly attacks on the President of this country, who has led us through some of the most difficult days in our history.

I'm talking about spiritual warfare taking place right on this forum.

It's not going to go away with a weekend off. I've been praying for an answer to what I should do, but this place is no longer a place I am proud to be associated with...........and a whole lot of people at all levels of opinion about immigration agree with me.

Perhaps some of you will be happy when anyone who has a shred of respect for the President leaves. Then there won't be anyone left to mock.

Then... GRAB ToTo Dorothea.. you are in for a wild ride, whether you WANT TO GO or NOT.. We have sown to the whirlwind and be advised we will reap it.. Oz is the next venue..

20 plus million brand new democrats (or more) will change the voting fabric of this nation.. Besides that in a hyperbolic situation describing it with anything LESS than hyperbole is merely disinformation or worse agitprop..

Faint, put your hands to your face, just suck your teeth or show a little outrage girl.. because whats happening is OUTRAGEOUS... You do know the Bushs idea of immigration "control" is the Senate Bill NOT the House Bill don't you.. and to be honest I believe he only prefers the Senate Bill because he HAS TO CHOOSE.. He would really prefer even LESS CONTROL.. as he has shown for what 6 years now.. Thats not an accusation its a FACT..

Stand on your hind legs and BARK, or Cower.. your choice..
Many Alpha dogs in this pack, but its true there is some Beta and Gamma dogs as well..
HOWL or cower.. you do know your place.. better than me..

Thanks for the reinforcement that I'm heading toward the right decision to leave FR, hosepipe.

I'm not the cowering type. I'll fight, but I won't fight here.

Critical mass has been reached for a whole lot of us. This is not a forum we wish to be associated with......not because of its owner, but because of its occupants.

None of us is afraid. We're just not masochists.
