D.C. Chapter to Counter Fred Phelps Group at Arlington Nat'l Cemetery on Memorial Day 5/29/06
Friday, May 26, 2006 | Kristinn

Posted on 05/26/2006 2:07:50 PM PDT by kristinn

All FReepers and lurkers in good standing are urged to join the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic this Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery as we stand up against the Fred Phelps led Westboro Baptist Church.

Phelps and his cult will be doing their "God Hates Fags," "God Loves Dead Soldiers" schtick on Memorial Drive near the entrance to the cemetery.

We'll gather in opposition to send a positive, patriotic message of gratitude to the families of the Fallen who will be arriving at Arlington for the wreath laying and speech by President Bush that morning.

An excerpt from the press release by Westboro Baptist Church:

Thursday, May 25,2006 NEWS RELEASE Thank God for lEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) God Himself Has Now Become America's Terrorist, Killing and Maiming American Troops in Strange Lands for Fag Sins. WBC to picket Arlington National Cemetery - at 10:15 a.m., Monday, May 29 - at Jefferson Davis Hwy. & Memorial Drive,Washington, D.C. (Virginia) - in religious protest warning: God is not mocked! Gal. 6:7. God Hates Fags! & Fag Enablers! Ergo, God hates the U.S.A. and Memorable Day idolatries.

The D.C. Chapter will arrive at 8 a.m. to get set up along Memorial Drive with the MOAB and our flags and signs. Parking at the cemetery is going to be tight, which is another reason to get there early. There is a Metro station at Arlington that is served by the Blue Line.

Please forward this announcement to those you know who would be interested in joining us Monday morning.

As always, the D.C. Chapters rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

unfortunately, we'll be at the Quantico National Cemetery with our Young Marines supporting an 1100 ceremony....otherwise we'd be there.
Please know that we're there in spirit!
Eagles Up!

"We have not decided if we are going more than once, but definitely on Monday morning so I can stop and support the FREEPERS at the rally in front of the cemetery."

Thanks to You from those that can't be there.

As you probably know...I was seriously injured in a crash at Easter time.

I have not been able to get out to go to Walter Reed FREEPS since that time.

I am going to do it this time, somehow, and the family is willing to help me. Arlington is very special to us since my husband is buried there.

These jerks should not show their faces in such a place of honor!

I am glad to try to do it.

Don't be sorry about the location. It is a lovely quiet place, not at all sad and gloomy. You feel that they are all happy to be back with their "buddies". I try to think of my husband as having a reunion with his friends and a very happy time of his life.

We lived in Western New York and had retired to Florida, but this was his choice. I understand why he wanted this, now.

Imagine how long your relative had been with his crew. Why separate them now? Well, that is one way to look at it. Had you considered that?

Yes, I am sure the young men he died with were "his family" at the time, and since they spent the last 60+ years together, it is fitting they be buried right next together.

My biggest concern was that being so far away, who would visit his grave, who would remember him? Your kind offer to visit his grave has certainly been a "signal" grace, that God is providential, and that Elgin is buried right where he should be. Thanks again. It really means a lot to me and my family.

Fantastic! One of these days I'm riding up to D.C. for Rolling Thunder. I need a cruiser though. After a half hour on my Zephyr I start to get numb.

You know he might be right. The more creedence or believeability that you give these a@@h@@@s by way of the press is wrong.

Momma always taught us ignore it and it will go away, give it attention and it will grow and get sympathy from others. A good example is the gay rights movement. Thanks to the press , a small minority now has more rights than straights do.

Didn't Phelps get the memo about God disliking false prophets; those who take the Lord God's name in vain and His loathing the minion's of the anti-Christ?

Guess not......just let Phelps and his band of loonies know that good folk, God-loving folk, are praying for them.

Right, he's just a passing phase. We've been through this before. Ignore Hitler's wild statements. The economy will get better and he'll forget about us. After all we fought for Germany. We were in the trenches.
