Oops, they did it again. Judges in a rematch of a 1976 blind taste test between French and Californian wines have handed the laurels to California for a second time. The French wine industry gnashes its teeth.
Thirty years ago, nine French wine experts shocked the world -- and themselves -- when they ranked certain California wines above their French counterparts in a blind taste test that came to be called, notoriously, "The Judgment of Paris." The French defended their belles dames at the time by sniping that the young west-coast wines wouldn't age well. "Our wines will improve with time," they sniffed. So the Briton who organized the Paris contest mounted a thirtieth-anniversary re-enactment on Wednesday in London and California, to see how time had treated the wines. Results? In brief: California smacks down France -- again!

Lord! Every wine in France is grown on American root stock which replaced French Phylloxera infested stock. The plant are very similar.
They do. And, I have one for proof. Well, I have both, the wine and the California girl.
(She's 1/2 French also, but we don't talk about that.)

California has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world (geological and wine-sipping babes). But Oregon and Washington also have some of the best wines the US has to offer.
I still give the Germans the nod for best lager beers though.
I worked with a number of Frenchmen both here and in France. One, when visiting here wouldn't even taste an American wine. He didn't appreciate my comments about him not wanting to become addicted. His boss, who was said to be a real connoisseur, thought some American wines very good and always drank them when here.
Well, if there's anywhere in America you'd find girls as furry as the French, Cali would be the place to look. ;-)
I'm not a wine connoisseur, but it seems to me that everyone is making wine these days. It would be interesting to see who comes out on top if this test were done with a variety of wines from different regions of the world.
The US wines would consistently be at the top for several varietals.

You might find those furry girls you seek in the areas of California near a liberal University. Probably the same in your state.
Might find a few authentic French girls in Calistoga at the mud baths. The French love those mud baths.

California wine grapes were planted by Italians and have been looked after by Mexicans. Even a $7 bottle of California wine can be great.
