I can't wait until MTP comes on here. Sensenbrenner did a tremendous job in his press conference on Friday. It sounds like he is chewing up Hagel and spitting him out.

Do these people that behave that way sound like Pat Buchanan wannabes? Of course, they pick and choose what they want to post, and like the media themselves they go for anything negative even if is only partially correct. I am sick and tired of that logic also. How about the media talking about Kenny Boy's friendship with GWB, but do not notice that he was a visitor and guest in the Clinton White House 11 times. He also gave $420,000 to the Democrats over 3 years. Those are the tip of the iceberg, yet listen to the Bush haters and the Old Media MSM/DNC hacks spew their trash at GWB.

Russert: What are political consequences if a Republican Congress and president don't fix this?

Hagel: There are political consequences for everything. We deferred this problem and the House wants to continue to defer it. Politics is about accountability and courage. This is a significant test.

Russert: Will house republicans accept any path to citizenship?

Sensenbrenner : That's a buzz word for amnesty. To respond to Hagel, I wasin Congress when the '86 bill was passed and I voted against it. Congress made a mistake. Those who supported it including former Senate Simpson who said the bill gave us the problem we're in.

I want to solve the problem and so do the American people but we have to do it right. Do things in the proper order. Secure the border and secure the employer sanctions law. No bill we pass unless done right will rectify the market situation that exists (paying illegals less money than citizens).

Zogby released a poll - do you prefer the Senate or House approach. 64% preferred the House approach.

Russert: Will you accept any legislation which puts illegals on path to citizenship.

Sensenbrenner: No. Talk of amnesty is increasing crossing the border as we speak.

Add to your list that there has not been one major attack since 9/11! The Dems would sure be trumpeting this if they were in power.

Thanks for compiling this - it's important. As far as I'm concerned Bush has ONLY disappointed me in two decisions: 1) signing Campaign Finance Reform, 2) the borders and immigration issue.

I wish he had taken on tax reform after his 2nd election, but he chose Social Security, a worthy cause but too controversial with today's drive-by media.

Russert: 24% of farming is illegal. 14% of construction. 12% of food industry. They are all illegals. What will happen to those industries if those illegals are sent home?

Sensenbrenner: I'm not saying send those home. Turn the illegal workforce into legal workforce. Because this problem has festered for so long, that can't be done with the wave of a wand or signing of bill.

Unless we do employer sanction, we'll get more illegals.

(not answering the question)

Frist sounds so foolish right now.

He only sounds like one because he is one! How this idiot even thinks he has a chance for the Presidency is beyond me!

I feel he may well remain as a MP for a while after he leaves the office of PM as they will guarantee him media time in the UK.

After a while though I suspect he will spend more time of lecture circuit in the US.

Eventually I can see him in the Lords though following the traditional route of ex PMs. I think he will love to have a title one day.

BTW, Tancredo addressed the children of illegal aliens. He said children DO have US citizenship under current law but kids would go with parents if they are deported. Once 18, children could claim citizenship since they would no longer be minors.

Not sure if I like that or how it would work, but it has been discussed to some degree.

Hagel: Sensenbrenner has just described the Senate bill. 4 states along 2,000 mile border with Mexico with 8 US Senators. 5 of them support the Senate bill.

Are they so out of touch with their constituents?

(Yes)

It sounds like he is chewing up Hagel and spitting him out.

That he is and he's doing a good job of it with Timmy too. Timmy cites the percentages of illegals in various industries and asks what will happen to those industries if you send them home. Sensenbrenner points out that no one is suggesting we send them home.

Last night A&E showed "Lima Company" again. One Marine described his feelings after seeing part of his company getting blown up by an IED, "I wanted to use my rifle. I wanted to shoot anyone I saw." He then went on to describe what he actually did do after that attack. In this media age our Marines have to be the most disciplined fighters in the history of warfare.

I thought all along he gave the time period he would be in the Senate and was adamant he would not be persuaded to change this.

At least Frist recognized and admitted that the AG and FBI were right in what they did, and that Bush urging calm by putting a 45 day hold on the issue worked to calm down the idiots (Frist included, although he didn't really admit that). As far as immigration, I sensed that Frist is really feeling the heat about the Senate bill...he also admitted he doesn't support all of it. Therefore, he must be one of those Senators that Sessions was talking about when he (Sessions) said: "republican senators are telling me it is OK, the house will rescue us"!

Hagel: I'm amused at Jim and others who say it's amnesty. We'll let the conference figure this out. I've spoken to Jim's colleagues. Most Republicans on the House side, including leadership, want to try and find a resolution to this. This is the best opportunity.

Russert: Would you support legislation that doesn't provide a path to citizenship?

Hagel: We can amend it, but deferring problem if we don't do this. We are now dealing with all the pieces in the Senate bill. Doesn't mean it's perfect.

Sensenbrenner: I hope there's a bill. But it's important to do it right. We did it wrong 20 years ago. None of us want our name on a bill that blows up and makes it worse 20 years from now.
