It's Dixie Chicks vs. Country Fans, but Who's Dissing Whom?
By KELEFA SANNEH
Published: May 25, 2006

While the Dixie Chicks would love to position themselves as underdogs, the truth is that they have probably never been more beloved by the mainstream media.

I read in the paper the the Dixie Chicks don't even want to be on the country stations anymore, so are these stations non-country?

When I was young, my father taught me it was a bad thing to burn your bridges. The Ditzy chicks seem to be guilty of felony arson.

“I don’t regret anything,” Natalie Maines said Monday to a national TV audience.

“I don’t care if they play us, I don’t care if they don’t,” Maines told USA Today.

So what's the problem? Stop giving out telephone numbers to get requests. Your small group of cool fans should be able to get all the DC cds soon. Coming to a flea market near you. Don't shut up & sing.Just shut up & go away. NOW.

< "I didn't realize there was that much hatred out there," >

Excuse me, dear, you fired the first hateful line at a concert in a foreign country, at wartime, against our president. What part of "you just don't do that" do you not understand?

Of the three Atlanta stations on the list, one is country and the other two are light rock.

That's because the country stations have pretty much dumpted them, their song went to 43 and then declined from there... so they then decided to try to cross over to pop -- thus the pop stations. We need to let the pop stations we don't want to hear from them, too...

I think poor little Natalie thinks that she should be able to say anything she wants because of free speech. But if anyone counters, they are "taking away" her right to free speech. She doesn't understand it cuts both ways. Or that her behavior by any standard was despicable.

These losers are getting desperate!

They help define desperation. "See Me" should be the title of their next album.

I really wish entertainers would just stick to entertaining.

I can't imagine that they gain any fans via their politics, but we all know they lose many.

When the ditsy chicks chit on the US military, the Pres, their fans and home city of Lubbock then the chit deserves to boomerang back in their faces. They are stupid, arrogant and hopefully has beens on the way down. Good riddance.
Maybe they can be the opening act for Bruce Springsteen...that is fitting.

My car radio is set for KFYI, and I don't channel hop on it. I used to watch CMT, but the last time I looked, they were still playing the Dixie Chicks, so I don't go there anymore. Let me know if CMT has changed this policy, and I will tune back in.

"I don't even know what's played on country radio, but when they tell me some titles, it cracks me up," laughs lead singer Natalie Maines, sitting in a swank New York hotel as the group promotes its new album, "Taking the Long Way."

"Besides, where would we fit on the playlist between 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk' and 'Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off'?" asks Maines, citing two recent country hits, as the rest of the Chicks — sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison — join in her laughter.

This sounds like a shunned high school girl who can't keep from watching what her ex-boyfriend is doing every minute of the day.

I think an appropriate response to the Chiksy Dicks media campaign would be to play their music in a video montage of the planes hitting the twin towers on 9/11.

That would get their attention if nothing else would.

What a sorry group of Liberal Socialist Losers attempting to redefine country music the way Broke Back Mountain attempted to redefine Cowboy culture.

Pathetic! Seditious and Unpatriotic.

I will turn off any radio palying their music untol they go to Iraq to entertain our troops.

That is their last chance and they better take it.

I don't have much energy to spend in the direction of the dixie chicks. They are just too lame to rate in my world. Please remove me from ping list.

The GOODBYE EARL hitmakers told the latest edition of Time magazine how selective they were about which TV shows they appear on, saying they hope to emanate their musical and political hero BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN.

Were they really so stupid as to use the word "emanate" when they actually meant "emulate"?

"I didn't realize there was that much hatred out there," says Maines, softly. "It was kind of a letdown. I kind of lost hope."

Perhaps they don't realize the support of our president, of our country, of ourselves...does not translate into this 'hate' Natalie 'feels'. Seems now she has defined our differing of opinion, a voting by our wallets as this 'hatred'. She did not receive the support she thought her continued comments should receive...so most certainly (in her own mind) it can only be hatred that is the excuse of not aggreeing with her comments.

Perhaps it's their constant stirring up this controvery, their inability to apologize, their hatred that is projected onto us, that keeps this going.

She has made derogatory comments about the president (on foreign soil), she has now derided country music fans, has been at her utmost stubborness in this whole situation. They are having PR problems and we are being made the scapegoats for these problems.

Seems playing the victim is their present defense.
