Senators grant themselves amnesty (amnesty or not? The answer is yes)
WND ^ | June 5, 2006 | Rusty Humphries

Let's stop playing games! Is the path to citizenship, as laid out by the Senate, amnesty or not?

What if our illegal friends pay fines, pay back taxes, remain continuously employed, stay out of jail, and promise not to criticize my favorite Mexican restaurant? Some senators say earning citizenship this way amounts to amnesty; most others say it isn't. But why take their word for it? These are the same guys who want to extend daylight savings time. Merriam-Webster weighs in: ''Amnesty ... the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals.''

This seems right to me. Yes, this is a darn good definition. I'm no master ''wordologist,'' but I'm thinking the folks at Merriam-Webster have nailed this one.

The problem is I don't think the most important question is whether or not legislation proposed by the Senate amounts to amnesty for illegal aliens. The better question is, does the legislation grant amnesty to United States senators?

The answer is yes.

See the problem? Senators (presidents and representatives, too) have looked the other way while non-citizens illegally cross our borders and then proceed to live, work, play and raise families here. In so doing, many of our laws are broken because these illegal aliens fraudulently obtain Social Security numbers and driver's licenses, don't pay their taxes, and, worst of all, vote repeatedly for the next ''American Idol"!' Oh yeah, and they take jobs legal Americans want and do every day. That's not a crime – or is it?

The Constitution clearly defines how one can become a citizen, yet our lawmakers have not made any attempt to demand enforcement. We know enemies of our country have entered illegally, yet lawmakers have left our borders virtually unprotected. Remind me, what was the purpose of that oath, anyway?

Here's what's really happening: The Senate has drafted legislation making illegal aliens legal, and simultaneously, absolved its members of the responsibilities of their oath. Check the definition again for ''amnesty.'' There's no debate here. The Senate is making the outrageous attempt to grant itself amnesty, while laughing itself silly as we debate whether or not they are granting illegal aliens amnesty.

That's the fact, Jack/Jose.

CONCLUDES...........

Why not, just for kicks, start holding our politicians accountable for their actions? I know they took that pesky little oath and that oath should mean something! We don't let presidents pardon themselves; why should Congress get that right?

The Senate bill grants amnesty, but perhaps the House of Representatives can put a stop to that madness.

"... but perhaps the House of Representatives can put a stop to that madness."

It had better. The American people are in no mood to be trifled with.

Too bad they don't hang people for treason these days.
What the Senate has done is as treasonous as they come.

Woodrow Wilson said, and Herbert Hoover agreed, that a Senator's head was just a knot at the top of his neck to keep his body from unravelling.

amnesty
A noun
1 amnesty, pardon, free pardon
the formal act of liberating someone

2 pardon, amnesty
a warrant granting release from punishment for an offense

So we agree they have commited offenses, and broke a lot of our laws but yet we will forgive all their law breaking and we will REWARD them to boot!!

And we will forgive the employers that broke tons of laws by hiring them!

And as to "paying back taxes" oh please....they were paid off the books so what back taxes??

No we will not give amnesty to those in Congress who have the audacity to take us for fools.

[I enjoy reposting this Snow video: }

We had the Clintonian parsing and the Kerryite nuancing. Jane Castain's 'translation of the rhetoric' (see A citizen's primer on immigration reform) seems counter to Tony Snow who wants 'linguistic precision'.

Snow/WH: 'It isn't amnesty. Honest. It isn't. Trust me.'

[Snow needs a good dictionary and a revisit to the 1986 Bill, which WAS called amnesty, and which contained provisions very similar to the current Senate bill.

No matter how much lipstick the WH puts on this pig, it is still a pig.]

Our ancestors had a technique that seemed very persuasive. It involved very warm roadway/roofing repair material, chicken covering and a thing that a train wheel would roll on.

The Senate bill is definitely amnesty. Why, because it grants illegal aliens rights that are not earned after a crime has been committed. All they have to do is pay their way out of it. In order for it not to amnesty there would have to be a step process that would over time give them steps to a possible citizenship. Note I said possible. The probation would go on for years, and I mean years, at least 15. Over this time certain things for good behavior would be granted. Children born during the whole 15 years would be ineligible for instant citizenship. 0-5 years no free schooling for children after five only if they owned real estate and paid property taxes or live for the five years at the same address. After 10th year possible unemployment and or food stamps ect. After the 15th could they apply for citizenship. If any crimes were committed anytime during probation by any family member, instant deportation would result. Now do I support this idea, no but a possible compromise or place to start. It is my belief that all should have to return home and apply for reentry since they ignored out laws. When one does that it says a lot about there ideals and beliefs. All this is of course just a rant and strictly my opinion.

What does this have to do with anything? It is one of the few common sense things the Senate has done.

Six years is too much. I think they should have four-year terms, 50% standing in every election.

We wouldn't have had a lot of very bad legislation if this were the case.

The OPPORTUNITY FOR THE CERTAIN PATH (make no mistake any 1st year lawyer knows the system can be gamed) IS the amnesty.

The fines and alleged taxes (or rather the USA paying earned income tax credit) are not the amenesty issue.

These people are deportable, the should be filing in their home countries.

The OPPORTUNITY AMNESTY allows them to apply here.

Huckabee was on FNC this morning.

He tried to say its not amnesty with a straight face. It just torpedoed whatever else he said.

Gov Huckabee, "Republicans have a strong message and people need to remember why they voted for republicans. The immigration reform is not amnesty because the path to citizenship blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Amnesty blah blah blah blah Amnesty."

We hear it and the illegal aliens hear it. Since this senate amnesty bill started in round 1 my office has been taking calls for "amnestia".

I have heard of that method of dealing with recalcitrants.
I think that particular technique would be very appropriate for our fine Senators here.

Huckabee has been and continues to be pro-illegals.

It seems the only Arkansas politician opposed to the Senate bill is Rep. John Boozman (R), who happens to represent the district that includes the headquarters of Walmart and Tyson Foods.

Rep. Boozman Says He Cannot Support Senate’s Amnesty Bill

Washington, May 25 - U.S. Representative John Boozman (AR-03), the lone Republican member of Arkansas’ Congressional Delegation, said today that he cannot support the Senate’s version of immigration reform because it includes an amnesty provision. “Amnesty by another name is still amnesty,” Boozman said referring to the Senate’s attempt to change the debate by calling their amnesty program a guest worker program. He added, “The problem with their approach is that Americans see these proposals for what they are - which is amnesty. Changing that name does not change their opinions. Nor will it change mine. I believe that amnesty rewards unlawful behavior, which goes against everything this country stands for. Trying to change the framing of debate does not change the actions of the perpetrator.”

===

Both Arkansas Senators (D), Lincoln and Pryor, voted for the Senate bill.

Huckabee was on FNC this morning.

Huckabee is a flaming liberal in RINO clothing.

Look for Club For Growth and other conservative organizations and media to work to oust him from office.

Nixon did it in the early seventies, I believe he actually cancelled it outright.
"For the Children" got involved and it was reversed.
