Like you tagline says: "Stepbackandthink" ..almost unanimous in their hatred of Islam...
...avid antisemitism in Christianity or most of its branches

Although the rhetoric gets heated, there is not a unanimous hatred towards islam here. There is a hatred for the acts perpetrated in the name of this so-called religion of peace. I for one, hold no hatred for islamic people. I pray for them daily and hope they one day see the blessings of God we enjoy in the USA. Lastly, the avid antisemitism you talk about isn't present in Christianity - the evangelicals I know believe in that Christ's new covenant could not exist without the Jewish faith. If you want to see antisemitism on display, go to a Noam Chomsky lecture.

It would be nice if some of our secular and academic elites were as brave and honest as the good Cardinal regarding Islam. Too much to expect from panty-wearing cowards, I expect.

If the American Catholic church had more clerics like Cardinal Pell I'd still be Catholic.

There is no "American Catholic church." There's only the Catholic Church. Here in America, we do have "AmChurch" which is a group of rogue bishops who are in crypto-schism from Rome. If your diocese is ruled by an AmChurch bishop, you have other options while staying in communion with the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. You should look into them.

Come back home, the Cardinals don't make you Catholic, Jesus does.

"Yours is a different view from the majority here, which is why i try not to generalize. "

Whereas yours, for a noob, is also a different view from the majority and therefore some may generalize that you are a troll: Stepbackandthink June 6, 2006.

I don't see a damned thing wrong or factually incorrect in what he said.

Your faith is primitive, unforgiving and violent, muslims. Deal with it.

Dr Pell

What's up with the Dr. prefix? Is it an Australian thing? While he may have a doctoral degree, the Church usually uses the Cardinal prefix for princes of the Church.

My question is, if everyone here is in almost unanimous support of Bush...

They're not. If you took the time to read through the many posts concerning Bush, you would find a healthy number of FReepers opposing the President quite vigorously on many issues. Try to find that kind of diversity on DU.

..and almost unanimous in their hatred of Islam..

Had islamic adherents not attacked the United States so viciously on 9/11 and were not responsible for many other numerous atrocities against American citizens (the Cole, Khobar Towers, Beirut, Somalia, etc, etc...) islam would find a receptive place here on FR. Islam has declared war on us, not the other way around.

..why does every argument for the invasion of Iraq start and end with "We are bringing Democracy to Iraq"?

Because that's precisely what we are trying to do. A Democratic form of government in Iraq would be less hostile to the United States and less of a troublemaker on the world stage.

Also, why do you care about Israel (most, I am trying not to generalize) when there is avid antisemitism in Christianity or most of its branches?

Israel, for the most part, has shown itself to be a staunch ally of the United States, and has taken the brunt of much of islam's hatred and anger towards Western society - hatred that would be focused even more on the U.S. had Israel not been there. As for 'antisemitism in Christianity', please provide links to support your assertion, otherwise it will be considered just another lame attempt to smear Christians.
