Tony Blair and George Bush today hailed the targeted killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as "a blow for al-Qaida".

Mr Blair told his monthly news conference the US air raid that killed Zarqawi - the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq - would severely damage the terrorist network.

"The death of al-Zarqawi is a strike against al-Qaida in Iraq and therefore a strike against al-Qaida everywhere," he said.

However, Mr Blair said the elimination of Zarqawi would not reduce the level of daily violence in Iraq or lessen the challenges faced by the Iraqi government and US-led forces.

Iraqi police jubilate in the holy city of Najaf, south of Baghdad 08 June 2006 after hearing Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki announcing the death of al-Qaeda leader in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Nuri said Zarqawi "has been eliminated," in a combined US-Iraqi raid north of the restive city of Baquba, southeast of Baghdad. The US military said Zarqawi was killed in an air strike where he was holding a meeting with fellow militants, ending years of hunting for the country's most wanted -- and elusive -- fugitive. They need to bury this piece of human garbage Zarqawi in a pig-skin body bag. That's what the Russians do to Muz terrorists.

Christopher Hitchens, Joe Leiberman, Tony Blair are the few that still provide hope that Liberals CAN get it and hold firm while the rest of their kind are completely irrational.

I only wish we could take this as a turning point for Liberalism against their anti-American shtick that results in lionizing Zarqawi and making George W. Bush the pinnacle of evil in the world. I know we can't unfortumately.

YOu should read the comments section at the BBC story where they ask what people think about this.

The amount of liberal caca spouted from these people is insane.

Calling Bush and Blair bigger war criminals than Zarqawi
How this will just create thousands of zarqawis.
How Zarqawi was an invention of Bush to keep troops in Iraq.
How Zarqawi should of been arrested instead of killed.

on and on and on. These people need to seek psychiatric help.

Well said mate. Zarqawi was a tosser and I hope he hurt like hell before the US killed him. Well done, lads. Bin Laden and George Galloway are next. Forget the left wing trying to spoil our fun with their usual treasonable utterances. Today is a good day!

This was done by 2x 500lb bombs.

1x 500lb should have demolished the place. Oh, but look, rebar - reinforced concrete...that's why it did not do as much damage.

Something is wrong with this picture. I think the Air Force used something other than High Explosives so that there would be bodies left. But what, I do not know. I can not imagine just a 500lb concrete bomb with a small amount of explosives as they use for bunkers.

But, maybe. He is too pretty, don't you think?

Oh, and if he was killed immediately, why is there all that swelling on the side of his face.

I am wondering if the concusion or shrapnel or a bullet got him.

OMG! That is insane, people have lost a sense of right and wrong, or they are not checking facts, just ingesting whatever the media tells them.
