TRENTON, N.J. - Commentator Ann Coulter's incendiary words about outspoken 9/11 widows have led two state lawmakers to calls for a boycott of her book in the widows' home state of New Jersey.
Assemblywomen Joan M. Quigley, D-Hudson, and Linda Stender, D-Union, on Thursday called on New Jerseyans to stop buying the book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," and for retailers in the state to stop selling it.
"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books. By making these claims, she proved herself worse than those she is attempting to vilify - she is a leach trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others," the two assemblywomen said in a statement.
A spokeswoman for Crown Forum, the publisher of Coulter's book, did not immediately return calls for comment Thursday.
In her new book, Coulter writes that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands perished in the World Trade Center act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."
She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."
The comments drew criticism Wednesday from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., who said the book should be called "Heartless," and New York's Republican Gov. George Pataki, who said he was stunned by the remarks.
Coulter appeared Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show and stuck by her stance, saying the women used their grief "to make a political point."
Her criticism was aimed at four New Jersey women she dubbed "The Witches of East Brunswick," after the town where two of them live.
The women - Kristen Breitweiser, Lorie Van Auken, Mindy Kleinberg and Patty Casazza - have spent the years since the 2001 terror attacks supporting an independent commission to examine government failures before the attack. During the 2004 presidential race, they endorsed Democrat John Kerry.

Once you cross a line like that, you're fair game. If you don't want your children to hear nasty things about you in the press, don't cross that line.

Coulter is Coulter. Not for those folks who are easily offended by over the top hyperbole. As far as I'm concerned, once they start spouting like moonbats in the political arena, they are fair game for derision.
Hugh Hewitt has never been a Coulter fan, and those who have read and enjoyed her wit, are not likely to see this as over the line. When she said "let's invade their countries and convert them to Christianity", the polite class gasped in horror. Ann's fans cheered her on.
I don't whine when people hammer Nancy Pelosi's looks, Michael Moore's treason, or for that matter Coulter being a desparate transvestite.
We need someone on our side who will fight in the gutter with the gutter-dwelling, treasonous libs and spit in their face. Ann's the one.

This is good stuff when looked at in the context of the entire nation now will get to see what Liberals really are.

Ann has no way of knowing if those things she said about the women and their husbands is true. You think that's okay to say? Then you'll just have to remind me how we're different from the left if we start lying and making stuff up about people.
The actions of these women: the fact that they clearly revel in their celebrity status as widows, milking it to the hilt for their own pleasure.
The fact that while these women are able to natter endlessly about how great they themselves are, how wonderful John Kerry is, how evil the President is, they never really discuss their murdered husbands at all except in the most impersonal forms of reference. A rational person would wonder why these women have zero desire to memorialize their dead husbands and conclude that they exhibit zero esteem for the departed.
Lastly, since these women seem to enjoy mugging for the cameras so much it's pretty amusing to suggest that they do what so many insubstantial celebrities do to get back in the limelight - pose for Playboy.

"Too bad she didn't include your "the fruits of}. Not a word is being said about anything else in the book. The left will not read it, only argue about this over the top statement. The right will read it...preaching to the choir."
More importantly, moderates will read it to see what the fuss is about. Some will probably say, "ahhhh, now I get it."
This was brilliant. The left cannot hide from this. They are condemning someone, trying to curb her freedom of speech. Coulter is going to get more air time on this becuse the libs want blood. They will pull a Matt Louer and get eaten up.
Grow up already. And stop whining.
How does she know that the husbands of these women were about to divorce them? How is that true?
For Coulter to go off the rails and make these kinds of accusations (no matter how opportunistic the Jersey Girls are) suggests that Ann is somehow jealous.
At least they had husbands and children, something Coulter can't seem to snag.
If it was not for her consistent "bridge too far" statements, her books wopuild be in the bargain bin with Hillary's and Bill's.

Not true Laura wasn't thrilled with the remarks, but I don't recall hearing the word "disgusting".
And the Jersey Girls should have thought about what their kids might hear before they opened their vile anti-American mouths. They absolutely have the right to say any mindless or evil things they want to say, but they must be prepared to deal with verbal challenges. Freedom of speech isn't just for them.
