Wendy's said yesterday it would significantly cut artery-clogging trans fats from its menu, beating market leader McDonald's, which still has not made good on its promise to remove the fats from french fries in the U.S.

"Our concern, which is based on testing, is the flavor of the product. Right now we're considering several options," she said.

Trans fat tastes good.

McDonald's should go back to beef fat. That's when the fries were good.

The headline is wrong. Jason's Deli was the first. Perhaps they are only scoring fastfood hamburger businesses.

Anyway, it's too late to save Dave. He was a good guy.

Kudos to Wendy's.

Wendy's said yesterday it would significantly cut artery-clogging trans fats from its menu,...

Why?? Are they (Wendy's) trying to pacifiy the food-nazis, or the consumers?

Granted, I haven't been to Wendys in a while but I don't remember customers barking at the magament and staff, pounding the counter demanding less "artery-clogging trans fats from its menu".

Trans-fats are like a slow acting poison. It has nothing to do with being a food nazis.

And yes, the consumers are making their voices heard.

Did he eat that stuff everyday? Wendy's does have healthier choices if you eat there a lot.

Trans-fats are in crackers, cakes, chips, cookies and candies. It doesn't take a lot to get a unhealthy dose.

The problem is Trans-fats are completely unnecessary. Most of the time, they are in the food to extend shelf life.

By the way, Trans-fats were also hidden in the croutons on the salads. Even if you thought you were eating healthy, you were still eating that poison.

And yes, the consumers are making their voices heard.

Well, a small percentage of consumers are making their voices heard.

The actual consumers will vote with their wallets after the change.

Should be interesting.

I believe Dave Thomas died of liver cancer. I am not sure if that has any link with trans fat. I suppose it could be possible, since the liver filters your blood, but I'm no oncologist.

Anyhow, like 2.5 said....Thomas was a decent guy. He did a lot for charity, especially adoption. Being adopted himself, his foundation does a lot to help foster children find homes.

You're correct. He died of liver cancer. The mistake was he had a Quadruple By-Pass Surgery in December of 1996.

I agree. He was a good guy. To attribute his health to his business may not be fair though. Who eats Wendy's hamburgers and fries every day? It's ok for an occasional treat but as I mentioned there are healthier choices. Most people don't get cravings for their salads though. If Wendy's can make the combos with healthier and less fat great but if they don't taste good,as you said.... people vote with their wallets.

"Trans fat tastes good."

Sure does. Funny thing is, why would Wendy's burgers be any worse for me than what I cook at home? Lets see...

Beef, bread, lettuce, tomato, onions, cooking oils, potatoes, etc.

In some form or other, the average American eats those items at home more than out. I SERIOUSLY doubt this is a reaction to customer requests as some insist. If someone is fat or otherwise unhealthy, Wendy's is going to be no worse for you than Mom's cooking. Compared to my Country-fried Steak or Crawfish Etouffe, Wendy's is health food. ;-P

As a consumer I don't buy anything that has trans fat. I know personally that it will shoot your cholesterol through the roof. I'd rather not die before 40.

Why do people seem so insulted by Wendy's reformulating their recipes to produce the same quality food with less trans fat? Has producing and eating unhealthy food somehow become virtuous?
