WASHINGTON President Bush expressed "serious concern" Saturday over the suicides at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay and directed an aggressive effort by his administration to reach out diplomatically while it investigates.
"He wants to make sure that this thing is done right from all points of view," White House press secretary Tony Snow said Saturday evening.
Bush, who is spending the weekend at Camp David, was notified at 7:45 a.m. EDT.
Snow said it was during his daily intelligence briefing just afterward when the president voiced his concern over the incident and directed that the bodies be "treated humanely and with cultural sensitivity" to show respect for Muslim traditions regarding the dead. The administration's controversial detentions at Guantanamo Bay of hundreds of men on suspicion of links to Al Qaeda and the Taliban, many of them for up to 4 1/2 years and without charge, is a point of contention between the United States and many of its allies in Europe in the Mideast.

The only thing Bush should be concerned about is making sure these vermin are wrapped in bacon and cremated.

President Bush expressed "serious concern" Saturday over the splinter that G.Mason got while repairing his backyard fence, and directed an aggressive effort by his administration to reach out diplomatically while it investigates.
In the meantime, the prez directed that all that is medically possible is being done to make sure G.Mason is resting comfortably, and that the tropical depression, in the Gulf of Mexico, does not bother him.

Bush should just call this for what it is. These are three jihadists who just committed the political equivelent of putting on an explosive vest and setting it off.

My only concern is for the poor private who has to mop the floor under the spot where these dirtbags snuffed themselves.
Give that kid an extra day at the beach.

"They're lucky to be at Club Gitmo."
Club GTMO is an accurate description. Their treatment there is far better than anything they would get anywhere else in the world.
If I were a detainee, GTMO is where I would want to be.

I am "concerned" that President Bush is being too "culturally sensistive" in all the wrong ways... Our "cowboy" turned out to be a "rhinestone" variety?
When the most powerful nation on earth is rendered powerless through a combination of primitive savagery, name calling and manufactured "incidents", something is terribly wrong.

According to O'Reilly, the average terrorist there has gained 18 lbs. since going there. They can't be getting treated too badly. He also said that the cost of meal preparation is three times what it was for the troops there.
They're getting treated just fine.

Bush should just call this for what it is. These are three jihadists who just committed the political equivelent of putting on an explosive vest and setting it off. Great point. Since that's what is considered by them as "culturally acceptable," apparently, perhaps they ought to strap vests to all of them and put them in a field for the GTMO equivalent of Monty Python's Practicing the Art of Not Being Seen.
Snow said it was during his daily intelligence briefing just afterward when the president voiced his concern over the incident and directed that the bodies be "treated humanely and with cultural sensitivity" to show respect for Muslim traditions regarding the dead.
I suppose that suicidal hanging is right in line with muslim traditions too.

I'm concerned that the president I luv dearly is not caring about our marines who are in custody and being treated not nice ,chained like animals accused of "KILLING THE ENEMY" whose goal in life is to kill us all; hopefully Dubya will come to his senses and intervene on their behalf,"innocent untill proven guilty".
To: Publius6961
I must respectfully disagree.
The national "Hate Bush" psychosis is becoming so bad that I no longer even look too closely at what the President is saying or doing, I simply stand for him, right or wrong.
When GWB apologized during that press conference with T. Blair for his words and deeds, I couldn't even watch. The vultures can have a few empty phrases, but I don't think they can every force GWB to be a "rhinestone".
I live in a pretty tony neighborhood where the streets all meander eventually out to the main access road. The stop sign there is adorned this morning with a Stop Bush bumper sticker. I am pretty angry about it, and wonder which one of the fat cats around here is so craven as to deface public property, to vandalize something that was paid for with my tax money. Because that person's opinion gives him/her the right? When I saw it, I had the Vietnam era flashback. If it feels good, do it. Sex, drugs, rock n roll. Gawd, what a bunch of losers my generation has always been...
As for the "cultural sensitivity", I cannot even care anymore about such nonsense. Let the PC crowd force President Bush into these word games. One of Dubya's more endearing qualities, IMHO, is the fact that is he isn't a smooth talker, and so people often "misunderestimate" him.
How I would love to see him mangle this stupid phrase live on TV...Code Pink Shirt Gregory would probably soil himself.

How can you be sorry for people that want to kill us and would if given a chance. So they took the cowards way out, who cares?
It's to bad that they are not provided a few feet of rope when they arrive at Gitmo. No pity.

"He wants to make sure that this thing is done right from all points of view," White House press secretary Tony Snow said Saturday evening. Homocide bombers reduced to a pathetic suicide. That's about as right as it gets.
To: cougar_mccxxi
I guess when these guys do it with an explosives belt in a crowded market, the concern is slightly less serious?
To: RGSpincich
Didn't see your post before I posted mine. We're on the same page. These type of statements from Bush are foolish.
To: Right Brother
I'm also concerned. They had to use bed-sheets to make the noose. We need to provide them all with a length of rope.
