Angelides promises health care for all children if elected

Schwarzenegger camp says enrollment, spending are up for Medi-Cal and Healthy Families programs

LOS ANGELES - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides on Friday promised to provide health care for all of California's children if elected by closing corporate tax loopholes and tax breaks given to those who earn more than $500,000.

Standing with a group of parents and their children outside a health center in East Los Angeles, Angelides gave brief details about his plan, which he believes would provide health care insurance for children, reduce college tuition and help fund public education.

Angelides, the state treasurer, estimates California would have to roll back about $5 billion in corporate tax loopholes and tax breaks for those earning more than a half-million dollars.

"I'm going to protect working families, I'm going to stand up for them and I'm going to make corporations and multimillionaires pay their fair share," Angelides said.

Health care reform is shaping up to be a key campaign platform leading up to November's election. Angelides and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger this week indicated it would be one of their top priorities if elected.

On Wednesday, Schwarzenegger called for a summit to develop a new health care system that would provide assistance for all Californians. Schwarzenegger has previously opposed a universal health care system but said he may make 2007 "the year of health care" if he remains governor.

That should pretty well bankrupt the state. Why not put in some more restrictions on power plants and electric lines so Californians can sweat in the dark as their jobs leave the state.

Raise taxes on the rich and homelessness, crime and despair will disappear tomorrow and California will become a nirvana. He's kidding, right? People are actually so stupid as to believe he can give all their children free health care if the rich are taxed out of existence? Sure and there's the San Andreas Fault Big One I'd like to sell you.

The Democratic base in CA are hard core leftist activists and the public employee unions. Government is their livelihood and they've had it good. They've been able to block reform for decades. But at some point down the road, no question the piper will have to be paid. And then the ride will stop.

I understand that the Calif. Rat base is very left, but not everyone in Calif. is that far left.

Some of the more moderate RATS will crossover and vote Arnold if they get to afraid of this moonbat.

Only if the Democrats are in power, which I don't see happening in the next 150 years.

I wish I had your confidence, both in the Democrats remaining out of power, and the Republicans resisting the urge to toss federal money at a failing California.

Yes, that was a ballot measure Ahnald supported. Just shows how stupid people can be when it comes to junk science.

That amounts to age discrimination. Free health care for the young but not the old? Typical socialist bullsh$t. Liberals love to give away everything that they don't own.

If all conservatives leave the state of CA, then democrats will be left to canabalize themselves. This could be held up as model for what the rest of the country can expect if liberals regain power.
