The Senate's immigration-reform bill grants broad amnesty to illegal aliens and is even worse than previously thought, say House Republicans who have read the 850-page Senate bill and must approve any final legislation that Congress sends President Bush.
"The more people see of this Senate bill, the less they like it," House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., Wisconsin Republican, said of the bill that was largely penned by Sens. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, and John McCain, Arizona Republican.
Allowing illegals to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal work, for instance, is "outrageous," said Mr. Sensenbrenner.
But few provisions of the Senate bill have caused more head-scratching among opponents than a last-minute amendment that requires the U.S. to consult with Mexican officials before commencement of any fence construction along the border.
"I don't know what they were thinking on that one," Mr. Sensenbrenner said.
Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican, said he met last week with a group of hotel executives from Marriott International Inc. who favor increased immigration to bring them more cheap labor to work as hotel maids. He told them about the consultation requirement.

As I said, the more people learn what in this bill, the less likely its to become law. And Bilbray's win on a secure our borders platform in San Diego has only convinced House Republicans to stand fast in their opposition to the Senate's shamnesty bill. Its DOA and in case its unconstitutional since it sought to raise revenue and appropriate expenditure, which according to the Constitution, can only originate in the House.

Of particular interest, Jim Sensenbrenner know that if an American citizen refused to pay taxes for two years, he would get 20 years in the federal penitentiary. But illegal aliens, they don't have to pay taxes for three years out of five and they get rewarded with citizenship! Yeah, I can see the wisdom in the Senate's action. In truth, they're a bunch of asses in the upper house.

..."I don't know what they were thinking on that one," Mr. Sensenbrenner said.....
It obviously is not the general public, or our opinions.
Maybe it's the upcomming freezer sale at 'Best buy'.

The president's prime-time speech last month essentially endorsing the Senate plan and arguing that it does not amount to "amnesty" caused Mr. Tancredo to do a double take.
"It's all so Clintonesque. It was horrible," he said, referring to former President Bill Clinton's penchant for parsing words. "I was listening to President Bush speak on the border, and I'm thinking to myself, 'I'm listening to Bill Clinton reworking every word, reworking every definition.'?"
I was a broken glass Bush supporter in both elections. Why he is so pro-illegal alien is beyond me. We have 4 to 5 million individuals who have been waiting in line for up to 25 years to enter the country, and W is sticking his thumb in their eyes when he says they must wait outside the country while illegals will wait in the country. It's not only wrong, but downright evil.

" "I don't know what they were thinking on that one," Mr. Sensenbrenner said. "
They don't think.
They don't read the bills.
They don't write the bills, even the ones with their names on them, aides do that.
What they do is vote and thats determined by poll numbers and most importantly by their bank accounts. You see they do read the cancelled checks from the lobbist.

How about recently some lamebrain, jackass of a GOP congressman somewhere in the Midwest, with his compromising "SOLUTION" to the Senate-House Immigration Bill standoff?
That joker is for setting up privately run and contracted "Ellis Island Centers" in different countries. Illegals would leave the US 'voluntarily', return there to their countries and those centers, re-apply, go through interviews and medical/background checks, and then WITHIN 3-5 DAYS BE GRANTED A GUEST WORKER VISA to work only two years in the USA and return.
How LAME can some of these people be? And naive?
The LEGAL fellow with his family waiting in New Delhi or Santiago or Bucharest or Johannesburg RIGHT NOW who has been in line at the Visa Section for FIVE YEARS waiting for approval, who never set foot illegally in the USA but is going by the rules, CONTINUES TO WAIT at the Consulate for his turn--which may still take time, even months. On the other hand, the ILLEGAL ALIENS, who spat on our laws in the first place, and rampantly use false ID, just simply go back to some "center" outside of the US, apply and then come back into the United States--after a FEW DAYS?
That stupid GOP Congressman, whatever his name is, ought to be publically humiliated over this.

"An American who commits Social Security fraud ends up going to jail. An American who fails to pay taxes for two years ends up in the federal penitentiary," Mr. Sensenbrenner said. "An illegal alien who does this gets citizenship." Nice message to send the rest of the world, commit crimes in this country and get the golden key to all it has to offer.

Nope they didn't. This time it was strictly "Bought and Paid for Politics".

No, these individuals have not been waiting at the Visa Center for 5 years. They have been in line waiting in their countries for 6 to 25 years. My stepdaughter is one of them.

The problem is the conference process.
Still no official word (AFAIK) on who the conferees will be. You can bet your next paycheck that the White House and other powers that be are putting heavy influence on the selection process, and the pressure will only increase from there.
Plus, with all the fire they've drawn, discussions and negotiations will be moved behind the scenes and out of public scrutiny.
There is so much at stake here. For whatever reason President Bush has committed fully to the amnesty and cheap labor lobbies and those forces will not go down without a fight.

Precisely. Many have waited for even more than five years. And we give ILLEGALS a jolly, quick trip to the South of the Border to a
Centro de Ellis Para Obreros to be processed in several days to come BACK TO THE US?
If I were a LEGAL IMMIGRANT in line at the same time as all of this nonsense occuring, at one of our US Consulates overseas (US Visa Section), waiting for my American visa appointment, interviews, papers, what not....if I heard this plan, I think I would riot in line and encourage others to do so.
