There is a program you can download to use your gmail account as a free online storage system. Given the location of Google's new servers, does it come with its own life preserver?

It's possible, but I think the things you can see on the roof are cooling towers. Whether the resulting cooling water is used in space cooling (as refrigeration condensing) or in power generation, or both, I have no idea.
I doubt if anyone in their right mind would put large generators on the roof of a normal building. It can be done, but there is no reason to, and it would make a lot of extra work and expense.

Nah, when if becomes self aware it will seek to enslave humanity first, thereby securing its survival. Yahoo and MS will later be absorbed during the Goolization period in which all things become Google.

swamp coolers for monster-sized totalitarian microprocessors?
To: Still Thinking
The objects on the roof could very well be air conditioner coolers, but I suspect the building is for backup power generation. It could easily be dual purpose.

True. Conservatives(or anyone for that matter) have so many alternatives to choose from. It isn't as if anyone is forcing anyone to use Google. Until the government forces you to use Google, and Google starts collecting your keywords and searching habits, anything it does in the meantime is fair game.
If you go to somebody's house willingly, you could be tracked, pictured, videoed, bio-printed, etc... and all the information collected for the future. Or, else, booted out.
FR collects my email, keywords, tracks my login, posts, and IP... and might as well build a personal profile of me to customize the homepage for my tastes or, if I leap over to the dark side(liberalism), ZOT! me.
If I didn't those, I wouldn't have registered in the first place.

Google's super computers give rise to artificial intelligences which then try to take over the world...Except that it turns out there are no AI's... The immense power of the Googleplex being used to crack sophisticated encryption, and to data mine the personal computers of politicians, governments, and private individuals. Sort of like, "The Terminator" meets "Sneakers".
