A question for the MDs:

Does this have implications for other lung disease, such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis or the damage from cystic fibrosis or chronic pneumonia? Could a person's own lung stem cells facilitate repair of the alveoli in a targeted therapy?

A question for the MDs:

While I'm not a MD, I happen to be a DO, also written as D.O.

Does this have implications for other lung disease, such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis or the damage from cystic fibrosis or chronic pneumonia? Could a person's own lung stem cells facilitate repair of the alveoli in a targeted therapy?

A person's own adult stem cells/lung cell progenitors may eventually become a treatment for emphysema and chronic bronchitis, terms included in the diagnosis called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, also known as COPD, as they result from external insults to one's body.

I doubt that someone's own adult stem cells/lung cell progenitors could be useful for cystic fibrosis or chronic pneumonia. The former is an inherited disease, and the latter implies an inherited or acquired immune deficiency.
