Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio wants 11 more large tents to house an influx of illegal immigrants.
Tent City One is outside the nearby Estrella Jail in southwest Phoenix.
There are 2,000 inmates in the two tent facilities and about 10,000 inmates in all of the county's jails.
In August, state legislators passed an anti-human smuggling statute giving prosecutors a tool to go after smugglers.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas later issued an opinion saying illegal immigrants suspected of paying coyotes could be prosecuted as conspirators.
"The law is clear and I intend to enforce it," Arpaio said. "But we're going to run out of room (in the jails) at this rate.
"We've been arresting about 100 people a month since the county attorney ruled that people involved in smuggling conspiracy could be prosecuted," Arpaio added. "We might arrest as many as 1,200 in the next year."
OF COURSE NOT.
The recall effort was in 2005.
clarence3 is just posting OLD stuff.
At least the sheriff knows up from down...

Well, I don't know how broad the current recall effort is, but in the last election, Dan Saban, who ran against Sheriff Joe (2 others ran for the Office as well: Tom Bearup and W. Steven Martin) was endorsed by:

Anything that ends with these words is not worth reading.
You have to know how clawrence3 operates. He has an agenda.
see my 25...
The RECALL effort against Gray Davis here in California had to start somewhere too - sorry that 2005 is already "outdated" for you two.
You're just trying to stir up dissent. Wishful thinking on the part of poor you.
I don't "know" that there is no current RECALL effort.
"Arpaio is a hero!"
Arpaio is a camera hogging, egocentric, smarmy jerk. BUT, his ideas a just fine.
"You have to know how clawrence3 operates. He has an agenda."
Don't we all???
"Top Ten Reasons to RECALL Joe Arpaio"
I agree with you and will back your words as fact.
I am a retired defense attorney from Maricopa Cty and have visited the tent facility on numerous occasions. I have NO problem with the vast majority of his actions but he has stepped over the line too often.
I love Sheriff Joe. What's the chances of this guy running for Governor of Arizona; or better yet, Congress?
(Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio wants 11 more large tents to house an influx of illegal immigrants.)
Where can we send donations for Army surplus tents?
(Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for head of Homeland Security.)
or at least head of ICE.
Camera hogging, egocentric, smarmy jerk applies to just about every politician on earth. However, if you've got one that will enforce the will of the people, more power to them.
