North Korea Preparing Test for Missile With Potential to Hit U.S.
Fox News ^ | Friday, June 16, 2006 | Associated Press

EWASHINGTON — North Korea is accelerating preparations for testing a missile that has the potential to strike the United States, a U.S. government official said Friday. A test of the Taepodong-2 long-range missile may be imminent, the official said.

The official agreed to speak but only on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information.

The official said the Bush administration is very concerned about activities that point toward a test, but declined to elaborate.

Japanese and South Korean officials also have expressed concern in recent days about the reported North Korean missile launch activities. Kyodo News agency in Japan reported that an additional rocket section had arrived at a North Korean launch site within the past two days.

In Tokyo, the Japanese government responded to news reports about a possible test by warning that any such step would jeopardize the country's security.

The reports of a possible launch come after a prolonged hiatus in six-party nuclear disarmament talks designed to create a Korean peninsula free of nuclear weapons.

Persistent efforts by the United States and other members of the group to persuade North Korea to resume the discussions have not been successful. There have been no discussions since last November.

My hubby works at PACOM, and seems to be worried about this and watching it very closely. We are leaving this island in a few weeks thank goodness!

Yeah but consider this: It can only reach San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland.

That is not funny, they might kill some spotted owls or pine trees if they hit the Pacific Northwest. That would be a shame.

Unfortunately unless you are moving to South America south of the equator, it won't do you much good. Below are great circle maps showing the path of an ICBM traveling from North Korea to Washington, DC. That distance is only 6,869 miles (11,055 km). The missle has a range of 15,000km (9322 miles). It can reach every place on the earth but the shaded region in the first image.

"North Korea is accelerating preparations for testing a missile that has the potential to strike the United States"

N. Korea Aids Iran Nukes:

"Iran is building nuclear-warhead capable missiles with help from North Korean experts in a vast underground complex near Tehran"
Iran ‘Buying Missiles from North Korea’:
"German diplomat, citing his country's intelligence data, confirmed that Iran had purchased from North Korea 18 disassembled BM-25 mobile missiles with a range of 2,500 km, which would render them capable of reaching Israel and Turkey from Iran"
Venezuela's Chavez to visit North Korea, Iran:
""We will soon be in North Korea, we will soon be in Tehran, deepening our ... strategic alliances," Chavez said during his weekly Sunday broadcast."
Iran promises Hamas USD 250 million (they'll use it to buy food and medicine? -not):
"The Iranian leadership announced that it will support the new Palestinian government and people"
Just one big happy family, I'm sure - nothing to concern ourselves with, nope.

Nothin' to see folks, just move along...

Kim hasn't been in the news lately, so I guess he is having front page news withdraws.

Or they might kill me, but then everyone dies at some point, may as well die while taking the majority of the liberal and queer movement with me... greatest good for the greatest number and all that... :^)

The missle has a range of 15,000km (9322 miles).

In this article http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1650839/posts
it states "North Korea is believed to be developing the missile for a range of up to 10,000km."

I see nothing in this thread's linked Fox news article to dispute that.

Do governments do anything other than "express concern" over obvious threats.

Has the worlds so-called "civilized" societies gone completely soft?

Where's that ABL missile killer. I'd love to see it blast that missile before it hits the stratosphere.

It's out to sea in an undisclosed location although as big as it is how could one not see it? LOL Hubby told me a little about his huge ball but couldn't go into details that were classifed. What he did tell me non-classified) it this thing is way cool. One purpose of this huge ball is I can distingish between a fake missle and real missle.
