1993: Murtha Called For Retreat from Somalia on House Floor!
Sweetness and Light ^

Posted on 06/17/2006 11:32:39 PM PDT by Minus_The_Bear

Sweetness and Light has posted transcripts off Murtha's call for retreat from the House floor from Somalia in 1993 along side the 9/11 Report findings that doing so emboldened UBL and Al Qaeda. Is Jack Murtha proud that his call for retreat from Somalia inspired UBL's attack on America?

Read it all here!

He didn't, and we're stuck with Murtha Sr.'s "quagmire."

MURTHA URGED SOMALIA PULLOUT IN 1993

NewsMax broke this story back on 11/21/2005.

Sorry, Sweetness and Light.

++++++

Huh? I'd say Murtha broke the story when he spoke from the floor of the House and then bragged about his influence elsewhere.

(BTW, NewsMax never mentioned Murtha's House speech, just his TV appearances. So you're not even factual correct.)

But apart from that, if you'd click on the link and actually read the story cited, you will find that it is about the 9/11 Commission report, which cites both the pullbacks from Beirut and Somalia as inspiration for al Qaeda. Which are the two very events Murtha wants to replicate.

Sheesh.

And even if I did steal a NewsMax story, which I didn't, it would be only fair turnabout. They have been stealing my stuff without attribution for years. As has WND.

But thanks for your uninformed smear.

Murtha is a woosy.

No ... no ... Murtha is a former Marine and war hero. He's been a hawk on military issues up till now ... that's why his 'cut & run' strategy where Iraq is concerned has such validity. You can find out all about it in the NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, at NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN ... check it out.

But, but BUT. Bush the Elder sent troops to Somalia to provide security for a UN Humanitarian mission to deliver aid to STARVING Somalians. According to The Media, it was a Crisis of Epidemic Proportion, a famine because of Drought and Something MUST Be Done. The fact that a civil war was raging & was as much, or more, a contributing factor to starvation as the dry spell got lost or glossed over in the orchestrated whine to Do Something.

Predictably, the humanitarian 'aid' resulted in being a fresh, new supply of freebie goods for budding black market, Uzi/ AK-47-toting entrepreneurs...so the 'aid' ended up, again, predictably, further contributing to The Crisis. 1993, being in one of my 'don't give a damn' decades, I didn't think the US should have contributed troops to the UN/ Somalia in the first place.

Sorry, Sweetness and Light.

No apologies necessary. . .S&L credits their posting from National Reveiw blog.

EEE / Am most appreciative for this posting 'reminder' from SamHill- no matter it's source/date. The more this is shared; the better. . .

This IS a critically important message. . .and which apparently from the silence of Repubs - has all but been forgotten (?) - as has been a post-mortem warning in the 9/11 report that America's pullout from Somalia galvanized Al Qaeda for it's mission to destroy/conquer America; so as to establish our country as a Muslim nation.

(that seems to be lost in conversation as well. . .because it lacks a politically correct slant?)

from S&L as well:

[The author, Stephen Spruiell, goes on to cite the Frontline story "Hunting Bin Laden" to demonstrate how the pullout of Somalia may have inspired Bin Laden.

But we don’t need to take PBS’s word for it. We have the official bi-partisan 9/11 Commission’s Report:. . .]

Repubs need to begin a drumbeat here. . .challenge with the truth EVERY conversation by Murtha. . .Kennedy...Kerry... and Demrats, et al as they whine/demigogue, for our withdrawal from Iraq.

These Demrats/Libs. ..need to be challenged as to what this short history tells us about Military strategy being decided by non-altruistic, politically insecure; self-serving and short-sighted politicians. . .

. . .and what it portends for our Country (and 'ergo' the world-at-large) for America to pretend to victory; while embracing 'weakness' and defeat as per Clinton's critical decision for withdrawal in Somalia - a strategy they would-if-they-could repeat for Iraq - and a disastrous, typical-Democrat. . .group-think decision that gave rise and realization to our 9/11.

Our Repubs need. . .can. . .serve our Country better; by reminding/educating at every opportunity, the truth beyond the Muslim hatred - i.e. how that hatred translates to their vision of a Muslim America.

Liberals never tire of whining 'Americans do not understand, 'WHY' we are in Iraq. . . Typical Liberal arrogance.

That said, we do need to expand the dialogue. . .

What gives the aBhole Murtha his credibility? Is it only due to his Viet Nam service? This guy should get NO print inches at all. What a d*ck!
