Houston area flooding (Houston FReepers, please post updates here)

Posted on 06/19/2006 7:43:42 AM PDT by Miztiki

Looks like Houston is a mess and things could get a whole lot worse.

How is your part of town looking? Roads? Flooding?

We're in Pearland near where 1128 and 518 (Broadway) intersect. Our yard has a small amount of standing water but all looks well for now.

Oh yeah, I know from wence you speak!

I hate trying to get to or out of my office when it rains. If I run OKR to Silber, that floods, if I go OKR to pick up 610, that floods.

If I try Antoine to Memorial, Antoine floods. If I go down Shephard, Shephard floods. It's driving me bonkers.

We're supposed to have a client come in the office at 1pm, and at the moment there are no admin staff there. I'm going to have to give it a try. (sigh)

That's the drag about being the boss! All my bosses are here, but two admins are out.

That sounds like a really good description of what it looked like on the radar. Almost looked like a circulation (altho I know it's not).

Feel free to evacuate to New Orleans if you want. It's nice and dry here. ;)

Forklift follies?

Time honored tradition.

Even more so since we're shutting the place down in a couple of months.

He's smart enough not to be standing in a wet ditch taking pictures!

Two of my co-workers are stranded and won't make it in today.

I used the same excuse when I was at Rick's.

Is it just me, or does that storm system have a bit of counterclockwise rotation to it?

We're starting to get the really fun stuff down here on the island now. This intensity reminds me of when Allison ate my car back in 2001.

It's been calm here at I-10 and Washington for about an hour now.

It's definitely a mid-level low that is spinning counterclockwise.

It's not a repeat of Tropical Storm Allison, but it's very similar.

And as slow as it's moving, dangerous flooding is probable.

I was just wondering who you'd conned into doing that. Guess no third party was involved!

Tank leak at Deer Park Shell plant prompts shelter-in-place alert

11:11 AM CDT on Monday, June 19, 2006

From 11 News Staff Reports

Officials at the Shell plant in Deer Park on Monday reported a leak at one of their tanks at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Shell emergency personnel reported the release of a gasoline component from a storage tank at Shell’s Deer Park chemical plant.

Officials said on-site emergency crews applied foam to the tank to minimize vapors.

Meanwhile, the City of Deer Park initiated a shelter-in-place as a precaution for residents and businesses north of San Augustine between Center Street and Georgia.

Deer Park officials said traffic has been closed for east and west bound traffic along Highway 225 from Beltway 8 to Battleground Road.

Shell officials said they will continue to take air readings within the plant and in the community until the response is concluded.

Aside from a noticeable odor, there were no reports of people being overcome.

We are at Memorial and Chimney Rock. Lots of hard rain but we are high and have no flooding (well as high as you can get in Houston) heh

Well the office called and said the client cancelled and for me not to come in, just to face the afternoon rash of storms.

Luckily I can work from home and not get everything completely out of hand.
