Base to Bush: Stop illegals
The Washington Times ^ | June 19, 2006 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 06/19/2006 10:23:58 AM PDT by kellynla

Top conservative leaders have written President Bush telling him to drop his insistence on a guest-worker program and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens and instead support the 85 percent of congressional Republicans who want to tighten law enforcement first.

Signers include William J. Bennett, Robert H. Bork, Ward Connerly, David A. Keene, Phyllis Schlafly and a number of think-tank academics and pundits.

The immigration debate is the first major issue on which Mr. Bush finds himself opposing a majority of Republicans in Congress and depending on Democrats to deliver a victory. In their letter, the conservatives tell Mr. Bush to side with his fellow Republicans in Congress or risk repeating the 1986 immigration law that promised enforcement and amnesty but delivered only the amnesty.

"Border and interior enforcement must be funded, operational, implemented and proven successful and only then can we debate the status of current illegal immigrants or the need for new guest-worker programs," 39 conservative leaders write in the letter, to be released today. A copy was obtained yesterday by The Washington Times. The letter was addressed as well to House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee.

Across the House and Senate, 85 percent of Republicans voted either for the House bill, which is an enforcement-only bill, or against the Senate bill, which dramatically increases immigration and offers a new right to citizenship for illegal aliens.

"That's pretty overwhelming among congressional Republicans. That shows a distance from [Senate bill sponsors Sens. John McCain and Edward M. Kennedy] and what the White House has been saying recently," John Fonte, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute who is helping organize the letter, said in an interview.

Say, is that mile wide broad brush really easy to lift?

Your wild shotgun reply missed!

Which of my post were you replying too?

I do not see where you get off with the "100% my way" BS, and you have NO IDEA what all I do for the republican party.

Stop being lazy, if you have a point to make, directed at my post, reply in specific terms.

Help a candidate you can agree with, run yourself. Or if that's too much trouble, call write and visit your existing Reps and Senators and give them an earful.

I read the latest National Review magazine yesterday evening, and a very good pro-law enforcement/`secure our southwestern border' article stated that when George W. Bush was running for TX governor, he had a political ad that said:
"So he's not a Democrat. So what?" The ad was in Spanish.
I'll vote for any conservative--or any candidate for that matter, e.g. Sen. Nelson--who pledges to enforce our laws and secure our borders, and I don't want to have to `Press 1 for English' in the booth.
At least on this issue, what's the worst that can happen? So a Democrat/RINO/CINO is elected and s/he fails to enforce our immigration laws or secure our borders, and supports amnesty. Weeeell, that's what the administration is doing (or failing to do) now.
The `monster-in-the-closet' argument is just that, it doesn't carry any weight. We'll make ourselves "irrelevant"?
Ask the voters of South Dakota and Tom Daschle about that . . .

I know some just-over-the-border types. They all have fake SS id numbers, have a very low level of education, have drivers licenses, marry Americans if they can and have babies ASAP. A few are not at all interested in speaking English and they feel we should serve them in Spanish. There certainly may be other types but I haven't met any.

IMO if they get fake documents, they're all corrupt and are teaching bad values to their kids.

Who the hell is 'We'? You got another BushBot in your pocket. I've got a really good idea! Let the invasion continue and ya'll (The 'We' you discussed) can pay the bill. That's sounds fair, doesn't it?

He knows, Susie. It's a Liberal tactic. Tell the LIE enough times and a certain number of people will beign to believe it.

100% would be a wall on the border with heavily armed quick reaction forces waiting for invaders.
100% would be round-the-clock trains and planes with armed guards running the interlopers to transit camps then out of the country.
100% would be cutting off all illegals from all forms of welfare.
100% would be laughing in their face when they insist on paying "instate" tuition.
100% would be compensating folks living on the border for the damage the invaders do.
100% would be helicopter gunships patrolling for any Mexican "military" that tries to force the wall, or otherwise help invaders, and hot pursuit of the survivors to wherever they hide in Mexico.
100% would be putting an end to anchor babies, and preventing them from being citizens by birth.

All we want is the border secured to prevent the tidal waves of invaders that any discussion of amnesty causes. Once the border is secure, they can discuss other options, like guest workers and amnesties.

IF wanting 'Pubbie politicos to do the right thing makes me irrelevant, fine. I've done my job, cast my vote. They can go look to our future "citizens" for their vote. I'm sure they'll be appropriately grateful.

I love the way the Whiners have adopted Marxist PR tactics. Marxist always claimed they were the "Majority".

Yet the Whiners are unable to rally more then 40 votes in the US Senate while Bush has won 2 National Elections. Pretty arrogant of them to claim THEY speak for the "Base".

Based on the vote counts, they are not even close to being "the Base".

Whaaa!

Nice. Getting the infamous MNJohnnie "Whaaa" response is always a treat, but it rarely comes but one ironic post after you accuse others of throwing temper tantrums. Make sure you keep me on your ping list. You are endless entertainment. P.S. I just did a web search on MNJohnnie and "Waaa" and got four pages of results from freerepublic. (http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&p=Whaaa+MNJohnnie&xargs=0&pstart=1&fr=sfp&dups=1)

Kudos! I have not seen such dedication to one argument over such an extended period of time and over so many different issues since elementary school when little Brian Kelley bested the playground in argument after argument with his notorious ". . . so's your face" retort.

So stop your TANTRUM.

No quarter my friend.

We will lose America as quick as a blink, if we leave the borders open.

You are playing politics with a very dangerous issue. This is about AMERICA'S SOVERENTY.

The president better realize it and FAST!

He cant wait for congress...as Commander and Chief his job must be to RUN not walk to block further leaks and immediate deportation of all unregistered aliens....

NOW!!! utilizing existing laws.....

Appeasement was for Chamberlain not Bush.

My comment was strictly that the President should enforce the laws as they are currently written.

Exactly. One of the few constutional duties of the federal government and the executive branch is to protect the United States.

Why aren't we enforcing our borders right NOW?

We don't need any legislation, President Bush just needs to do his duty!

"The same could be same for your posting."

That's not the case. Putting Democrats in office, when we look at the big picture, is NOT in my interest. But those 3rd party morons who merely want to express their *ego* don't give a damn about their interest. That's why I meant when I stated

"The purpose of voting is to express your interest, not your ego."

A majority of 'Americans' don't agree with the President's, the Senate's, or your ( the mysterious 'We') opinion on this subject. I'm sure many on this board don't appreciate your John Murtha-like, don't forget I was in the military but, now I'm willing to sell out my country, attitude.

You have to ask yourself why is he ignoring his base on this issue?? Does he have to payoff the Trilaterists or some other group that benefits? For the life of me, he should kill illegal immigration. It is a loser. And yet he doesn't and wants to argue with those who disagree with him over it. Something is rotten.
