Rep. John Murtha is thinking big thoughts. Since coming out for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq last year, he has accused Marines of murder "in cold blood" before a preliminary investigation is even complete; accused the military of a cover up over the same incident; declared his candidacy for the House majority leadership post; and, most recently, refined his cut-and-run strategy in Iraq to mean "redeployment" to Okinawa, Japan. That's quite a splash for such a veteran congressman, who a year ago had zero name recognition outside Washington. That he's made a name for himself now by slandering our troops and their mission deserves a brief recital of some other activities

I could not find any info on active duty veterens. I checked employment status, it only list 311 people in the Armed Forces. There are no figures on National Guard or Reserve status.
Interesting. I would imagine the Guard/Reserves would be "civilian veterans" unless they're actually called up/mobilized. 311 seems awfully low, but I suppose it's accurate (recruiters, liaison officers, etc.) if no big units from that region are called up.

They've pulled out the 'ol playbook on this one:

Here's the article you were asking about.
"when does a hero stop being a hero?"
When they start using their past heroics for personal gain in the present.
I didn't know they allowed attractive politicans. I guess I'm too used to seeing Pelosi and her ilk.
that sounds reasonable ... thanks
I would like that. Then the real record of Murtha in Vietnam would percolate to the top. IMHO he forced himself upon the Marine Corps and was of no value to them militarily. Maybe just filled a billet that otherwise would have been left vacant.

man was I pissed !
then oreily had Laura Ingraham as a guest and he asked her about Murtha,....even she said he was not helping the enemy, just stupid.....
that made me livid ! Don't these people pay atttention ? Do they live in a bubble ?
save
.
Yes, I've read those observations on FR before and agree. Murtha knows he's been under investigation and thought the only way he could stave off the spineless in the GOP that could bring him down, or at least before the ethics committee was to start ranting about the war and call negative attention to himself.
Deflecting his wrongdoing by squealing that he's being persecuted for his views is a well known page out of the commie dems playbook. I'm ready for this sh*t to stop and for the truth about Murtha and his dirty dealings to come out NOW!
One of these days, the GOP will start using the Dems rotten playbook to their advantage. Having meetings and getting on the same page, using talking points would be a good start. They should try it sometime. It would work.
