Hmm, maybe they don't want the bad guys to know the stuff is still good and don't want them using it. Or, this is another group of Clinto-Punks stirring up things against the administration. If that's the case I suggest they start with the first of the 500 weapons and one by one open them up an stick their heads in them.
Good! So this means that all those stockpiles the military wants to burn can be gotten rid of next week right????
Guess all those law suits can be dropped as well, eh?
;-)
The argument used so freely by the anti-war types, that Bush went to war for the "wrong reasons", or that "Bush lied", has been pretty largely blown out of the water. Saddam HAD'EM! And Rick Santorum was perfectly right in revealing the existence of this report, and publicizing parts of it (some parts are still classified).
That might be tough. A while ago, about 2004, that happened, some terrorist found and improvised a mustard shell as an IED. It didn't work because mustard gas is binary, it's in two parts that mix together when the shell is fired. The spin on the shell provides the mixing necessary to generate the gas. If you just try and set it off, you won't get any mixing. The terrorist probably didn't know what he had.
On the other hand if you did know what you had, and opened the shell to extract the components without somehow killing yourself, you could have yourself a nifty little weapon.
Thank you for posting this article.
"But the intelligence officials, who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity, "
TRANSLATION: The AP reporter has a sock puppet.
I was watching Imus this morning and he had a military guy on who said he found a little-publicized report that traces of sarin were found in the Tigis River by our troops.
I had never heard of this and this guy is certainly no fan of the president so I was surprised when he said this.
Anyone else hear this?
Jane
Yes they could be so used and this needs to be passed along.
"intelligence officials, who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity," i.e., our experts at the WaPo. Sorry, this doesn't pass the smell test.
Many good points made by folks on this thread.... and I invite all whiny libs/MSM types and "anonymous sources" to volunteer to prove their confidence that these munitions are trivial by opening one in their own dining room, with their family around........
Yes...unlike these "sources" in Intelligence or the Pentagon....Rummy was quite forthright in answering the questions re: the WMDs and the report.
He didn't hesitate, as if this is a made up story...or if it was OLD NEWS that should be dismissed or anything.
I have seen a lot Rummy conferences...and he is quick to discount any type of "unsubstaniated" rumor...or hyperbole spouted by anyone....
So...judging by his reaction...I would put credence in the view that what Santorum and Hoekstra revealed IS significant.
Of course this is just my opinion.
They could have been used AND/OR sold.
Pure BS from the media. This is easily quashed by anyone with an average intellect. Any story with anonymous sources is automatically suspect, and seeing as how the truth in this matter is detrimental to the Democrats, their brethren with the media will certainly try anything they possibly can to simply ignore this or at least attempt to debunk it with bald faced lies, and this is the latter.
As has been previously noted, we are using extreme precautions to destroy our much older munitions of this variety since the chemicals most certainly are NOT inert.
This was certainly an expected response from the usual suspects. We need to make sure this is not simply "hushed up" and we need to bludgeon both the media and the Democrats with this all Summer long, IMO.
OK, we know that Feinstein, Schumer, Boxer et. al. are going to make as much of this as possible. Sooooo, have our ODU,s turn a couple into night table lamps for our above distinguished senators and representatives, for them to use, seeing that they will probably say the are harmless.
"AP and 'unnamed sources' are pretty much the same
story tellers"
Tried and true way of making up a story and passsing it as fact. Supermarket tabloids do it all the time. AP is no better.
So, in other words, they are STILL dangerous to our troops.
But were they too old to use in 2001?
The weapons were not "recently found." The article says they were found in groups of two and three over the past three years.
This information has been dribbling out since the beginning of the war.
I agree. That report did say the WMDs posed a serious threat to Iraq and elsewhere! So where do these guys get off?
